"Hey, baby." My mom smiles entering the kitchen. I smile and run up to her, giving her a big bear hug. "What time did you get here yesterday?"

"I got her around eleven- thirty. Scott picked me up because stiles was taking care of Ashton." I take a seat. I take a bit out of my avocado toast and take out a flyer for prom from my purse.

"So how was California?" Mom asks me excitedly.

I smile and get excited. "It was amazing!! I'll tell you all about it after school. But I should get going. Oh, here's the information for Prom." I hand her the flyer.

"I'll pick you up today, so don't walk home." She smiles at me. I nod a put the dish in the sink, giving my mom a kiss as I walk out the kitchen.

1:05 pm

I see my mom's car pull up in the parking Lott and u get up, heading towards her. She smiles at me and I get in the car.

"Hey." I smile, buckling my seat belt.

"Hey baby. Was I late?" She asked, driving away from school.

"No it's fine." I smile. "I was just sitting there on my phone."

"So tell me about L.A.!!" She squeals like a teenager. "How's Hayes?"

My face lights up when I hear his name. I smile and look down at my chipped nail polish. "It was amazing! We spent a lot of time together just talking and catching up. L.A. was so beautiful. I didn't really take advantage of the beach mostly because my attention was on Hayes."

"I'm glad you had fun baby." She smiles. "Now, we have to have a serious talk."

Serious talk? My hands get sweaty and my heart beat races. What if she asks me if I'm a virgin? I am!! Is she gonna have another "relationship talk"? That last time we had a talk, I was twelve and I was terrified. I didn't dare get near a boy. I asked my sixth grade teacher to move me away from any boy in the class.

I softly laugh at the memory, calming my nerves. Mom looks at my strangely and shakes it off. "Your dad got a call from your principal." She starts. "He told us that he put in a good word for you at duke. Why didn't you tell us about the meeting you had with your principal?"

"I was going to tell you but I forgot." I look ahead and the pizza parlor comes to view. "I was gonna have a talk with you guys, but I forgot."

Mom parks the car and I find a table inside the parlor while mom orders the pizza. She comes back and she places our number on the center of the table. "Remind me again, what schools did you apply to?"

"Only Duke and Pepperdine. But Pepperdine was only for for fun I guess." I shrug. Pepperdine is in Cali and Hayes is here. In NC. I just want to see if I get in.

"'For fun'?" Mom repeats with an angry tone. I lift my head to make eye contact with her. She looks angry. Oh no! "Camila you donMt try things for fun!" She says angrily. Her voice is loud but not to the point where everyone can hear. I look around the parlor and it's pretty empty. Only a few individuals scattered around. No one I recognize.

"Mom-" I'm cut off.

"Camila, you cannot just pick any college because you think it will be 'fun'." I look down at my nails. I need to get them done. "Camilla!" She demands. I look up and nod. "What if you don't get into Duke? What then? Huh?"

"Mom, I'm pretty sure they'll accept me."

"Camila you have to stop acting like a child. You're going to be a young adult soon. You can't get through life thinking you'll make it because you are 'pretty sure'." The waitress finds us and sets the pizza down on the table. I guess she feels the tension so she tries not to disturb us.

"I'm sorry." I say quietly. I hate it when she lectures me in public. I feel so powerless, but she's my mom and I have to respect her. There was a time where we would fight almost every day over the smallest thing.

"I just want you to be happy. You need to start being responsible. It's your senior year. That doesn't mean you can party whenever you want because it's your last year of high school." She shakes her head, grabbing a slice of pizza and putting it on her plate. "Start acting mature."

I roll my eyes hoping she won't see me. I grab a plate and put three slices of pizza on it. My mom just looks at me and I look away. I pour cheese on my slices.

"I didn't want you to be mad." She says. I nod and take a bit out of my pizza.

Mom only eats a pizza and a half. Once I finish the third one, I feel like having another one. There's one left, so I decide to reach for it. I pout cheese on it and I feel my mothers eyes on me. I look up and she's just staring at me.

"Really? Another one?" She asks. I notice a bit of disgust in her voice. I furrow my eyebrows.

"Is there something wrong?"

"That's your four slice."

"And? Are you calling me fat?"

"Lose the attitude, please." She wipes her mouth and takes the last sip out of her water. "We should get going. I think your father is home already." I nod and leave the pizza on the plate. I wipe my face and hands and we leave the parlor.

The drive home was quiet. We didn't say much. Ugh! I can't believe we are mad at each other for the most stupid thing ever. It's just one of those days where anything you do or say ticks her off. It's completely annoying.

"Hey kiddo." Dad smiles as I walk into the house. I smile and hug him tightly. "And your mom?"

"She's coming." I say and walk up the stares. I lock myself in my room and lay in bed.

"Hey, what's wrong?" I hear my dad ask my mother kindly. The door slams shut. I'm assuming that was my mother.

"I don't want to talk about it Mark."

How could she be so rude to my dad? He's being so sweet and she's being a total butt!!

I just need a nap.
