Last night was hell. Dad kept scolding me on and on and on about how wrong I was and how I shouldn't be doing anything besides being a prince and all that. Sizon was hungry as a hippo and he even finished half of our inventory meat. Everybody kept eyeing on Sizon with some kind of hatred.
So anyways, Sizon told us his story. On his 12th birthday, he must kill 4 monsters. So far, he's killed 2, the first one being the Filkser (metallic-like armored animal (which explains what happened to him when I first found him)) and the second one being the Eeth dragon. And, thanks to him, my dad forced me to train even harder on the next Training day. Which is, today.
"Go ahead, son, don't go easy on him!"
I ducked, I ran, I hid, but somehow that tail-wagging Draf (huge, spiky-tailed beast) kept finding me and hitting me hard right at my stomach. What was I even supposed to do? Throw my knife at him? It would'nt even make a dent. I could always use my short blade, which is my favorite weapon, but, unfortunately for me, I can't get any closer than to what I am right now. Like, 40 feet away. Whenever I get closer the Draf just swings its tail (fortunately enough, this one was a child, so its tail didn't have any spikes, YET) at me and I just go back to where I came from.
"Dad, I'm not sure about this..."
"You're 16, my son. Look at how Sizon defeated that dragon. Use your swiftness!!!"
I wasn't really that fast, nimble, or strong. Just agile and smart. But maybe I can put those to good use. I tried remembering something I read from this book. Something about Drafs. What was it?!?!?!?!
<SLAM>
Somehow, because of a hit from the head by the Draf, I remembered what it was .(maybe destroying one brain cell made the other stronger?) It said that Drafs have poor eyesight. Technically blind, bu can still see light and dark. They are dependant on their hearing. Which means,....
<bonk> <bonk> <bonk>
I'd hoped that me bonking my shield over and over would distract it. And guess what, It did. I got close enough to use my Short blade and, sure enough, I killed it. No matter what, my dad doesn't care whatever happens to these monsters. We capture, we breed, we eat. We're sort of a savage guild. Sort of.
"Well done, my son. Second course!!!"
"SECOND COURSE?!?!?!"
Who the hell said anything about a second course?!?!?! Nonetheless, a course?!?!?!
Have you ever seen a jungle with rope climbs, river crosses, waterfall swings, dangerous monsters and a Short blade? Well, I have.
"You can do this son."
"I might as well soil my pants."
I got through the first trial with ease. The-rope-swing-across-the-river cousre. Without knowing, a Seekh was there lying in the dirt and swapped me back the other side of the river.
"Holy Cypryus!"
I got my Short blade out and grabed the rope as hard as I could. As the stupid Seekh was waiting I jumped up on it and stabbed it hard. Icky violet blood all over my armor was probably the best thing that's ever happened to me in this course. I walked, thinking that there was no obsolete danger when ANOTHER Seekh grabbed my by the waist with its scorpion-lik tail and strangled me breathless. My Short blade was still strapped around my arm but I couldn't concentrate. It's as if each day something's going to happen to me and, by some twist of fate, it had to be cruel. I had to nudge its eyes with my eye until it let go. Trying desperately to catch my breath, I stood and tackled the huge scorpion. I used my best weapon, of course, the Short blade to kill it.
Along came a Slith. A snake-like creature that has these HUGE, and I mean HUUUUUUUUUGE eye that can see in the dark. There's no escaping this one. I managed to dodge its sharply poisoned tail from even touching me. For the record, this was the fastest I've ever fought in my whole life. Maybe 'cuz of the adrenaline? So anyways, the Slith had the ability to render its opponent unconcious in a trance because of its huge eyes. Stare at it long enough and you'll be its slave. Hopefully, I wouldn't fall for its tricks. So I threw my last knife at its eye and it did the job. I creeped up at it while it was bearing the pain of the knife and sliced its head off with my Short blade.
That took quite some time to deal with, and my dad just kept encouraging me more and more (although useless, in fact.).
"You can do it, son! There's another slith behind you!!!"
I turned around and saw the last thing I remembered. This Slith had its big tail heading straight for my face.
"Oh, God...."
Its tail slammed onto me and that's all I remembered. I woke up in the castle medic room with bandages on my face.
"How are you doing, son?"
"Oh, fine. Just small bruises, back pane, a few gashes,... OH, and a possibility of BRAIN DAMAGE."
"Are you really going to blame me for this?"
"Well, yeah. You FORCED me to enter the arena. Nonetheless connect it to the royal Garden Maze and put monsters in it."
"Well,... uhm... you-- uhhh..."
"Speechless, dad?"
"Just get plenty of rest, my son."
The only thing that gave me a smile in my face was the rest I got for having an injury. Best thing that's happened to me during this whole month.
