Glossary

This chapter wouldn't be so necessary but it was decided to be made since there are many german phrases and words in the book which don't quite appear all the definitions or meanings of them in the book. To start with, words 'Saukerl' and 'Saumensch' usually appear in every chapter and sometimes, every page of the chapter. Basically both words aren't that nice to say, but the reason was because they appear a lot; Rosa in particular, but other characters mention it pretty much. In addition, there are few words or phrases here already aforementioned in the book, but is repeated here.

In page 28, Rosa Hubermann says, "Was ist lost mit dem Kind?" meaning "What's wrong with this child?" then she says "Na, komm. Komm.", which means "Well, come on." 

Mein Kampf  is mentioned few times in the book, the title to Max's rescue book, meaning My Struggle, written by Hitler or Fürer himself. This is a book in which he outlines the views of the Nazi Party and ferociously attacks Jews.

Page 32, mentions Arschloch. The word Arschloch is a German swear for Asshole. Unlike Saukerl or Saumensch, this word doesn't differentiate by sexes. In the same page, appears a phrase, "Saumensch, du dreckiges!" and it means, "You dirty pig!"

Page 42 mentions G'sindel, which refers to english translation of a trash.

Page 41 mentions word schimpfen. Schimpfen refers to english translation of rant

Dacau Concentration Camp--An infamous concentration camp where about 32,000 prisoners died in total; while Dacau was not an extermination camp per se, about 30,000 Jews were gassed there

Now this phrase is mentioned few lot times in the book, which is Danke uber Alles, which means Germany above all, whicih also takes a line of German national anthem

Duden Dictionary--A German reference dictionary, first published in 1880, that is generally considered to be the standard of German spelling and pronunciation

Gestap--Nazi secret police,which was empowered to find and eliminate those accused of treason or hiding Jews

Heil--Hail; used as a Nazi hallutation

Jesse Owens--Like from pages 56~61, appearing as Rudy Steiner's famous athelete, is a black american athlete and an record-breaking runner who achieved worldwide fame and 4 gold medals at 1936 Summer Olymps at Berlin. Like mentioned in book, yes Hitler was embarrased by the victory of a black athelte, which served to counter Nazi's propaganda claiming the superiority of the white "Aryan" race(Definition to Aryan Race is up on the start of this chapter)

This word could be said as important, but doesn't really matter. Knoller, is this pub where Hans Hubermann goes to play the accordion for money.

Kristallnacht--"Crystal night"; a coordinated nationwide attack on all Jews in Germany involving lynchings and mob violence against Jews; so called because of the broken glass of shops owned by Jews

NSDAP--Abreviation for the National Socialist German Workers' Party, or simply, the Nazi Party

Seig--Victory; when combined with "heil," a Nazi rallying call typically accompanied with the Nazi salute, which is the extension of one's right arm at a 45-degree angle, palm down

Sickle--Similar to a scythe, an agricultural tool used to reap or mow; in contrast to a scythe, the blade of a sickle is a curved hook; some depictions of Death include one
