Star and Marco sat on the bus, both faced in opposite directions. The two had had a small squabble earlier that morning, though neither remembered what it was about. They just knew one thing, they were mad at each other. Star was prominent in staying angry at her best friend, Marco was heart broken. He always felt like this when they fought, he hated getting mad at anyone, especially Star.
Although Star was furious, she too, felt a weird tugging at her heart. This happened nearly every single time the two got into even a single argument. It never used to happen. It seemed as if their emotions were attached in someway. "You know you're going to have to apologize, I'm not going to stay like this all day, but I will if you don't apologize." Star said stiffly. "It's not even my fault, you're the one who should be apologizing." Marco replied, still faced towards the window, now nearly tearing up.
"For what?" Star asked angrily. "You know! For that thing you did this morning that I got mad at you for." Marco stated, frustrated that he couldn't fully remember what she had supposedly done. "You're the one who did that thing." Star yelled, now jerking towards Marco, fists balled. Marco starts laughing. "Stop it! Stop it right now and apologize Marco Diaz." Star said, mad at him for laughing.
"Star, calm down, I'm laughing because- do you even know what we're fighting over, cause I sure don't." Marco admitted, letting out another laugh. Star, hesitantly replied, "ugh, no..." Star grips her hair, "I don't understand why we have to do this. We fight over everything nowadays, it seems." Marco's laughter droned away and his face turned sad, "you're right, I guess it's just all part of living with your best friend." He said and tried to smile a fake smile at Star.
"No. This is different. This is completely different. No teenagers ever go through what we are." Star replied seriously, looking down at her hands. "Star, teens go through this kind of thing all the time on ear-" Marco tried before star interrupted, "I know I don't know a whole lot about earth yet, but I know what I'm talking about this time." Star started. "Do you remember when we danced under the light of the blood moon that one night Tom invited me to the blood moon ball?" Star asked in a hushed voice. "Of course I do." Marco replied seeming to be reminiscing. "Do you have any idea what that means?" Star hissed, not convinced Marco was listening.
"I don't fully understand what you mean by that." Marco replied cautiously, not get into a bigger fight than they already were. Star tried to calm herself by letting out a string of breath. "Our souls. We're basically a package deal now, like literally." She began. "The blood moon's magic light chose us to well... Be together. Like forever, and if we're not, we'll just get weaker and weaker until..." Star trailed off. Marco suddenly grabbed Star by the shoulders, with a big smile plastered on his face. "Star, this isn't a problem." Marco replied with his large smile. "I mean- we were going to stay together anyway, right?" Marco replied wanting it to sound like as friends, but was fine with it being either way.
Star's sullen face, now just realizing what he had said, began to grow bright with happiness. "Of course, Marco." Star says, reaching her hand up to touch Marco's hands that were still lying on her shoulders. "Where did you hear this, Star?" Marco asks suddenly curious where she had gotten this new information. "Well, glossaryck explained to my parents what had happened that night and they called me the other night, crying and upset. I can't quite understand why they were so distraught..." Star began but was cut off with the bus jerking to a sudden stop.
"Well we're at school." Marco stated. "We can discuss this later, I'm sure it's nothing to worry about."
