"Studies show that if someone can easily make you laugh, you are in some way, shape or form, attracted to them."
A week ago, Star Butterfly heard these very words from her teacher's mouth-- and it was one thing that actually stuck.
She had been pondering this statement for the past week and still was entertaining the idea to try it out. This wasn't like seeing some crazy, unheard of fact online or even information on something from a friend. It came right from the teacher's mouth; Star of course believed her immediately because teachers don't lie... right?During second period, Star stared at Marco to get his attention. At last the boy turned around and said, "Yes Star?" Marco waited patiently as Star read the smudged words on her hand. "How did the hipster burn his tongue?" Star started. Before Marco could say 'what' Star blurted out, "BECAUSE HE DRANK COFEE BEFORE IT WAS COOL AHAHAHAHA." The blonde then waited for her friend's response. Marco openly faked a couple of "heh heh"s and went back to his worksheet.
Star was a little upset and a tad confused. 'why in the world didn't he laugh, that was a good one.' she thought. The bell then rang; releasing them to third period: wellness. Star knew that this would be a fantastic time to try out some more jokes, they hung out the whole class together! Back in the gym, Star contemplated her options for her next joke. "MARCO OvEr HeRe!!!" Marco smiled and rolled his eyes, she didn't have to show him, they had the same assigned seating on the gym floor before the activity everyday. "Okay Marco, listen to this!" Marco opened his mouth to say something but Star interrupted; starting out her joke, "Knock Knock!" Marco laughed and played along, "Who's there?" "Star!" "Star who?" a perplexed Star gazed at Marco. Marco caught on and snorted. "Star... that's not how--" The coach started talking, cutting Marco off. He said that today (out of all days) the class would be going to health class instead. The two didn't get another chance to talk for the rest of the day. 'This afternoon, at home, I'll get him to laugh. He'll laugh so hard. He'll be rolling on the floor' Star thought and caught herself making strange faces during last block.
The two met up after school to walk home together. Marco could tell something was off with his best friend today but didn't comment on it; afraid he was reading things wrong. As they were walking, Star was deep in thought and finally walked past Marco to the front of him so that she was facing him and walking backwards. "So, hear about that dyslexic guy who walked into a bra?" When a dead pan of silence passed, Star muttered, "heh, yeah me neither."
She tried again, "what's the difference between a guitar and a fish? you can't tuna fish! What do you call an alligator in a vest? An investigator!" Star waited. "Isn't that funny? Why won't you laugh? Am I not funny, do you not like me?" She was nearly in tears at this point and stopped dead in her tracks. "Star! Star! What the heck ARE you talking about. Are you insane? Do I like you? What do you think?" Marco answered surprised. "I just thought.." Star trailed off. "I didn't laugh at your jokes because well... they aren't funny, but that doesn't mean that I don't think you're funny!" Marco exclaimed. Star sniffed a bit. "Really?" "Of course not!" Marco wrapped his arms around her and petted her hair. "What's with all the jokes lately? Listen Star, you're the coolest girl I know, just the way you are." Marco whispered and let go. "Thank you Marco." Star was feeling better already.
"how many tickles does it take to make an octopus laugh?" Star asked softly. Marco sighed and replied, throwing his hands in the air, "I don't know, how many?" "ten-tickles" Star stated, laughing at her own joke and wiggling her ten fingers in front of Marco's face.
"You're definitely the dorkiest girl I know too." Marco replied, rolling his eyes and placing his arm around her shoulder. "and I wouldn't have it any other way." and the two happily walked home.
It's late and I should be asleep but my theatre teacher gave me this idea today and I felt the urge to write at midnight. I'm sorry that this is super cheesy but FEBRUARY IS COMING AND MY CHILDREN WILL BE BACK.
