"I'm so sorry, hun. I know this won't be easy for you but hey, I promise we'll permanently stay in California. We don't have to move anymore."
Okay, I can't remember how many times my mom kept on saying the same thing over and over again everytime she would tell me that we're moving out. It's just July and this is the third time I'm going to pack my things and leave. I barely know anyone in my recent school, which is kinda good because it won't be too hard for me, unlike what happened in Amsterdam last year. Goodbyes sickens me.
Once I'm done putting all of my stuff in the built in drawer I have inside my room, I scanned the entire place as I lay down the bed. We're now in California. Sun kissed skins, palm trees, beaches, and bikinis. And as far as I am concern, I'm scared. I'm scared of this new environment. Well, I've experienced this everytime we move because yeah, who wouldn't be weirded by a girl who listens to MCR, dyed her short hair red, and always had a poker face. This time, mom said we're staying for good. That's great, I can establish a long term relationship with other people but the question is, is there anyone who will approach me. Nonetheless I don't care. I'm happy alone with music and my laptop.
"Nia, dinner's ready."
"Coming!" I got up and quickly went downstairs to the kitchen. This indeed a small house, yet spacious enough for the two of us. "Wow, boneless chicken wings for dinner," I thought out loud and Mom chuckled as she sat down across me.
"Your school starts this Monday," she said while putting a couple of wings on my plate. I thanked her and she continued. "You can stroll around the neighbourhood tomorrow if you want to. The school's just blocks away from here. So as the grocery store, the bookstore, the library and park."I smiled and took a bite from my food, I can't actually believe that she chose a great place for us. Well, being a novelist is a tough job. It consumes a lot of your time and brains and knowing she got a time to look for this house makes me feel special.
Definitely one of the reasons why I love her so much despite being busy. She wants the best for me.
"Can I borrow your car tomorrow? Or I can walk if you're going out." I already have my driver's licence and all I need is the car. But with our previous set up I decided that for my 18th birthday, I want a drumset instead. Atleast I can reassemble it as we move.
"I'll buy you a new car." She said quietly and stood up, taking her dishes to the sink.
I nodded. "That's cool. Wait what?!" I looked at her with eyes wide open.
"Mhm. I already signed a car insurance and we're picking it up tomorrow." She walk towards me and kisses my forehead. "Don't stay too late tonight. We're going out at eight. Goodnight, Nia. Wash the dishes first."
I'm getting my new car tomorrow. Oh my god.
