Chapter 10

I sat down on my bed nervously, whilst Lincoln continued to pace around the room until he finally took a deep breath, and suddenly blurted out. 

"OK, here it is!  Jake isn't who you think he is"

"What do you mean?" I said looking confused. 

"I overheard him on his phone, saying he was gonna pick up the gear"

I laughed. "Well, that could mean anything, he could be picking up his gym gear"

"Yeah I know, but then I heard him saying, don't worry, it's stashed somewhere safe and the stupid cow has no idea.  I will get what I came for then I'll be outta here"

"Oh! So now you are suddenly Inspector Cluedo" I said sarcastically.  "And are trying to tell me that Jake is a drug-dealer and I'm just a stupid cow, and when he gets what he wants he will leave me".  I could feel my blood pressure rising, with all the insane accusations Lincoln was coming out with.

"Look, I know it sounds crazy, but I don't trust the guy, he has bad vibes, and I wanna keep you safe, so I'm just warning you, stay away from Jake, he's dangerous"

"Lincoln, you're just trying to freak me out and trying to break me and Jake up"

"No!  I'm not,  I'm trying to protect you as a friend, why can't you open your eyes  and see that?"

My chest tightened, and my blood run cold as I tried to mask my concern and drown out my own doubts, as I could sense it too. But, instead of listening to Lincoln, I let my ego talk.

"Lincoln, just get the hell outta my life" I demanded.

Lincoln shook his head in disbelief and slammed the door on his way out.

Lincoln's words cut deep, and my heart felt as if it had been stabbed by a thousand knives. I sat on my bedroom floor, with my knees up and held my head in my hands covering my eyes.  I thought he was going to declare his undying love, not make me feel stupid and hurt me. 

Nerdy sat next to me and said softly, "I know you don't want to hear what Lincoln is saying, but he isn't trying to hurt you, he is trying to keep you safe, maybe it's worth keeping your distance from Jake for a while". I nodded wisely.   But then Amora whispered, "You feel a connection with Jake, you are intrigued by him and want to find out more, maybe if you get closer to him, he will tell you the truth and you can change him".

Nerdy frowned at me intensely and then disappeared into a puff of smoke. A teardrop fell from my eye and Amora gently wiped it away.

"Just follow your heart Sophia" she whispered softly, and then blew me a kiss goodbye.

I decided to listen to 'Coldplay' and escape and tune out the world for a while, as my head was spinning with so much information I couldn't even begin to process.
