Chapter 7
I panicked! What if it was Jake cancelling on me after all this effort I had made. I knew if he cancelled now, I would be gutted. I cautiously opened my text message. It was from Lincoln and breathed a sigh of relief.
Lincoln: Hey Sophia! Hope all is good in your crazy world. Wanna hang out at the Music Fest today? X
To my surprise, I felt a little disappointed. Why didn't he ask me before now? I text him back quickly.
Sophia: Sounds good. Hopefully, see you there later X.
I didn't want to sound too enthusiastic, but at the same time, I didn't want to come across as if I didn't care either. Oh, why is nothing ever simple? And why didn't I tell him that I will be there with Jake?
It was a beautiful day and I could feel the warmth of the sun rays on my face. I strutted down the street feeling excited and nervous about the day ahead.
I arrived at the Abbey Grounds, it was already buzzing and the atmosphere was electric. And then I spotted him. Jake was leaning up against the wall in a catalogue pose and looking super cool. He was wearing a leather jacket, a white vintage t-shirt, skinny black jeans and a pair of trendy red and black Nike trainers. His eyes lit up when he saw me and we gave each other one of those awkward 'do we hug, shake hands or kiss on the cheek?' greetings. We walked through the two huge iron gates and into the music festival. The sound of electric guitars, drums and keyboards were booming loudly out of the speakers and I could hear a cover of 'Cheerleader' being sung. There was already a huge crowd gathered around the main stage. Jake and I squeezed our way to the front and sat on a blue cotton blanket that he bought with him.
"You are very prepared" I teased him. "Always" he grinned back, gazing directly into my eyes which made me blush.
At first, the conversation felt a little strained, but after a while, I started to relax and found Jake to be a good laugh and slightly less cocky than I thought he would be. He talked about his friends and school life back in London, mixed with stories of wild parties, drinking and spotting celebrities in the street and on the tube. I asked him about his family, but he seemed a little uncomfortable and reluctant to mention them much. His life seemed pretty colourful compared to my vanilla ice-cream existence (except for Amora and Nerdy of course). I was intrigued to find out as much as possible about this mysterious city boy and his exciting life in the concrete jungle.
I watched Jake's eyes light up as he watched a band perform their version of "Uptown Funk" live on stage and he started moving and grooving his body to the music.
"I used to be in a band when I lived in London. I play guitar and can sing too" he boasted in his sexy, cockney twang.
Jake oozed coolness. It was a buzz just being with him. Just then, I felt a warm glow inside my heart. It was Amora. She did a little somersault then drew a heart shape in the air with her magic dust.
"Oh, I feel so happy I could burst" Amora squealed with excitement. I gave her a knowing nod, smiled and continued listening to the music.
And then I felt a warm breeze as Nerdy whizzed past by on her cloud.
"I'm so happy you're having fun, but keep your feet firmly on the ground too" warned Nerdy.
"Oh, do be quiet 'Little Miss Know-It-All!' Stop being such a smarty pants and a party pooper" warned Amora.
"I'm just keeping Sophia safe" Nerdy said protectively.
"More like raining on her parade" accused Amora.
