"How's my darling boy?! Oh! You've grown tall! An' you need a haircut! " Campbell's glad ol mum coos, hugging him & running a hand through his unruly hair. "I came o'er to apologise. I might've been a bit o' a jerk." he apologises, as his dad arrives to greet him & Pearl. "A complete one." Pearl corrects. "Nuh-uh! I was not a complete jerk! " Campbell disagrees, nodding his head. "Yuh-huh! You were a complete jerk!" she stands by her remark. "I like this one! She's feisty! " Campbell's mum exclaims with a chuckle, before pulling Pearl towards herself for a hug . For a sickly old lady, her hugs are rather strong & bone-crushing, similar to Campbell's!
Mrs. Bain insists that the couple stay for dinner. Campbell sits at the dining table with his dad, watching as his mum rustles up his favorite dish in the kitchen, while humming melodiously to a song on the radio on the countertop. Pearl helps her. "It's so nice to see the old girl up on her feet an' so energetic again! I'm glad you dropped by, son! " his father exclaims, patting Campbell on his back.
Campbell tucks in hungrily, as his mum watches him with a motherly smile. Then comes the question that almost makes him choke on his food. "So, when are you two gettin married? " his concerned mum asks. He coughs, surprised by her question. "Mum...what're you....? I mean, we haven't even been goin out for too long..." he stutters, before taking a sip of water. "Well, you two are already livin together, arentcha? " his father asks, in his stern Scottish accent. "Aye,but...I dunno if we're ready for marriage yet. I mean, we haven't even spent Christmas together! " Campbell explains, glancing nervously at Pearl for back up. She doesn't utter a word & stares down at her plate as she plays with her food & avoids his glance.
