Love has a Price

Chapter 2

{Vassago's P.O.V}

Jasper came back with water. Senses, when do demons, drink water? Apparently, I didn't hide my anger well because he cowered in fear when I looked at the glass in my hand. 

I almost died laughing when he ran out of the room but, I composed myself and fought it. I had a boring meeting to go to. I promised my father before he held his last breath, that I would win this war, I, Vassago L. Moonstar will end heavens rule. No matter how hard, how much blood had to be spilled. I will come out victorious.

{ Vera's P.O.V}

I went to knock on the door when it quickly swung open and I was pulled in.  I looked straight ahead realizing there was a knife to my throat. I heard a sigh and the knife dropped. I turned to see Zane with a relieved expression. "You scared the shit out of me," He said as I looked at him in shock as if what he had just done was perfectly normal. 

"I scarred you, HOW DO YOU THINK I FEEL!?" 

He chuckled and walked over to his closet. I took me just now to realize that he only had jeans on. I blushed faintly and sighed. He has a wife I thought. I sighed at the thought. I was the last of the angles that didn't have someone. Zane shook me out of my thought 

"Vera.....hey...snap out of it" a look of concern covered his slim face.

"I'm okay.....just.....thinking....." I lied. He seemed convenience but I knew him better. He knew I lied but let it go.

{Zane's P.O.V}

I came out of the closet after I put on my shirt to see Vera with a depressed glow around her. She was never fully happy----and I understood why---but this was more..gloomy. I shook her out of it. I hurt me to see her that way. Thinking the promise I made to her when we were younger. 

[ 10 years earlier ]

"Hey, Vera" I ran to her with a smile and hugged her tightly. She is my only friend. Everyone else ignores me. She hugged back with a pained expression. " what's wrong?" 

"Do you think I'm ugly?"

I held her hands tightly and said in the most serious voice I could come up with "Of course not. Your beautiful and don't let anyone tell you otherwise."

She smiled and kissed my cheek. "Thanks, Zane."

"Of course." I smiled but I knew better. I knew there was a reason for the question. I had hoped she liked me, I hoped she'd like me more than a friend as I did. "Why do you ask?"

"Well...um.....nobody likes me..... everyone has someone." I was surprised by her answer. I didn't think it is even close to right. 

"Might I remind you.......I don't have anyone"

She nodded and looked slightly less upset.

"I promise you, ill always be there for you. No matter how or why you're important to me and I hate to see you sad. Who needs love anyway?"

"I do...I feel depressed seeing people so happy. I want that......and I can't have it"

"I'll make you a deal then.......in 10 years or so, if you don't find anyone, I promise.....ill love you the way you wish"

Her eyes opened in shock and I chuckled. She took my deal and hugged me again.

[Flashback over]

I think back to it. I eventually found Cora and married her, not thinking of Vera. Now she's alone and its been ten years and my promise is broken. I looked at her sadly

"I'm fine Zane I promise."

She put her hand on mine and gave me a tight smile. I clenched my jaw and removed my hand walking over to the drawer. 

"why didn't you come to breakfast?"

I knew the answer. I knew why she didn't want to come. 

"I wasn't hungry."

I turned and looked at her meeting her eyes

"Is that the real reason?"

She was the first to break, looking down at her hands. She wouldn't answer me. walking over to her I kneeled down in front of her grasping her chin in my hand bringing her head to face me. 

"Do you remember when we were kids, we would hide in the garden. Just us two?"

She looked at me for a moment then nodded

"You would give me a flower everytime we meet there and we would hide when your parents came looking for us."

I chuckled lightly. I would get in the worst trouble for that. 

"I'm glad you remember Vera"

She looked up at me, studying me for a while. She opened her mouth to speak but just as she was about to talk a knock was heard at the door as it opened revealing Cora.

"Hey, honey i-.."

She stopped broadly when she saw Vera. She frowned and looked down

"Sorry I hidden realized you both were talking, ill go find Mel and ask her."

Vera stood about to object to Cora had already shut the door behind her.

"I have to go to training anyway. See you at lunch Zane"

Just as she opened the door to leave I called out to her. I have to say it. She looked back at me looking a little defeated.

"Yes, Zane?"

I stood and looked at her. I shouldn't say it. I can't. But I did and I still don't know whether I was relieved or I would regret it forever.

"I love you the way you wish"

She looked at me, pain in her eyes and with that she left.
