A boy, about four years old, runs up to a woman with long black hair that touched her waist. He calls out for her "mommy! Mommy!" She turns around and kneels down so as to hug him when he reaches her.

"Hey! Why didn't daddy get a hug? Why only mommy?" questioned Daniel brooding, crossing his arms. The boy giggles and goes to hug his dad too. "There's another letter from him Amasia" says Daniel, his eyes unsmiling, knowing that it will upset her.

"It's okay. It doesn't matter. It'll go in the "never going to read drawer"," said Amasia looking at their son, Arjan.

"It's like his thousandth letter, Amasia. Even if you're not going to read Brett's letters, why do you still keep them?" asked Daniel. He knew the conversation will upset her but he was curious. The grave expression in her eyes would always reappear whenever he would talk about Brett or Liam. He knew what had happened that day and how terrified she was, even when she told him the story when they met at work, a few years after Liam's death.

Amasia was never able to forgive Brett for what he did but for some reason she didn't dump his letters in the trash. Though it had been around eight years, she never read a single letter from him. Every week, Brett would send Amasia a letter from his prison cell and every week she would take his letter and put it in a drawer that was filled with his apologetic letters. "It doesn't matter. It's not like I read them or reply to his letters!" snapped Amasia.

"It's okay baby girl. I was just asking. You need a hug from daddy too" said Daniel, putting their son down and hugging Amasia tightly, making her smile. Arjan hugged their legs in awe of his parents' love for each other.

----

Amasia walked on the sidewalk lost in her thoughts while going to work. She knew she was going to come across the pillar, the pillar that Liam carved their anniversary on. With her heart heavy, she treaded gently, putting on a brave face. That's how her mornings were spent; thinking about Liam on the way to work but that was the only time allotted by her, to her, to think about Liam. She had a life now that didn't involve him and she wasn't ready to ruin it. Daniel loved her a lot and in some ways he was better than Liam, but Liam was her first love.

She reached "Malino" and stood near the pillar. The carving was a little faded now but it was visible, at least to her. She touched the carving lightly, her vision got blurry as she thought of the day he proposed. She looked over at the intersection and could figure out the exact place at which he proposed.

After so many years, she still wasn't ready to forget her first love, but that didn't mean she didn't love her husband. She was glad she married him and delighted by the fact that they had a beautiful son. She still hates kids, but not Arjan.

Arjan is her life, and so is Daniel.

----

Brett stares up at the ceiling, thinking about Amasia. He remembers the ways she would fight with him telling him that that was the last time she was forgiving him. A tear rolls down his left cheek as he thinks about something she said that also makes him laugh.

There was a knock on his dingy cell, dinner was served: rice and water like gravy which makes him sick just by looking at it. Tears start pouring from his eyes and before the jailor goes back to his seat, he asks him "was there anything for me in the mail?"

"No" replied the jailor without continuing the conversation.

She'll reply one day, its okay, she's allowed to be mad. I'll wait, thinks Brett taking a deep breath and tries to enjoy his dinner.
