The companions have already existed, since the beginning, normal people who travel with the Doctor but not forever, many things happen to them: some leave him, some are left behind and some, not many, but some of them die. And sometimes the Doctor travels alone because of the pain, because he don't want to lose more people. Like the Ponds.
"Who were them?"
"The Ponds. They were family." and one tear started falling from his eye and that was something rare to happen. "Amy, my Amy... Amelia Pond. The first face this face saw."
"What do you mean?"
"I'm not always like this Dean, I don't die, I regenerate and everything changes, I know who I was but I'm a new person, I can be more old, blond, with brown eyes... but it's me! The Doctor! Amy was the first person that my new me saw, many years ago, she was just a kid and she waited for me. I showed her so many things, so many planets, so many beautiful creatures, she saved the world, you know?"
"You and her... were together?"
"She was more than that. And she had a husband, Rory, they loved each other so much and because one of them... I lost both in Manhattan."
"It wasn't your fault."
"Everything is my fault, everything that happen with them is my fault!! I can travel alone but they... they show me the beauty of what I do, they show me the best of humans. I can't travel alone because I need that."
"As far as I can understand because believe me, this is confused, I saw things you couldn't believe but time travel in a machine, statues of angels? Man, that's new but you gave these people more than they could wait. Life sucks, it's full of pain, death, tears, demons and the devil... and sometimes, in a good day we can smile. You lost her but dude, you gave her something good, something different. She was a lucky person. Shit happens and you can't change that, you need to accept that and move on. I don't know her but I believe she would want see you happy."
The Doctor didn't say a word. He only saw how much pain Dean was feeling, for a long time, just a person who was suffered so much could say something like that, but he didn't asked who was the person that he lost, it wouldn't change anything and maybe Dean didn't want to talk about that. He had a whole life to learn more about him, about his pain, about how beautiful Dean Winchester could be, even with the demons he had inside.
"So... how was she?" the Doctor showed him a picture of her and Rory. The moment of the picture had place in Venice, 1580 when the Ponds traveled for a romantic trip but they ended up having a battle with vampires.
"Vampires? You have that too?" Dean laughed, maybe the world of the Doctor wasn't so hard to understand. Amy was really happy, a big smile and beautiful green eyes. "A red head, hun?"
"The most stubborn ever..."
"It's kinda a thing of red heads."
Rory was happy too, looking to Amy, the most perfect couple. Dean smiled to the picture, maybe that was the feel of all the people who travel to everywhere, for a second he wanted that too.
"Dean..."
"Don't worry, Sam will continue to believe that we are here because you need help. I will keep your secret."
The Doctor nodded and both smiled to each other. The beginning of a friendship, they thought.
Dean went to the TARDIS to find out what Sam and River were doing and the Doctor remained outside. River was reading a diary, blue like the box with the same lines and it was a little old, Sam was, once again, looking to all the buttons.
"Your nerd side is still excited?"
"Dean, we have never seen anything like this! We saw really weird things, things that even the Doctor wouldn't understand but come on, this is cool!"
"Yea, I know. Did you and the lady found something?"
"Not really but get this! The Weeping Angels feed on energy, maybe they want our energy."
"Okay... why our energy? They can eat others people."
Sam made his bitch face, turned and went into one of the hallways. The Doctor appeared, too excited like if all the tears and the conversation with Dean never happened.
"Sam please, stay close. We never know what we will find in one of the rooms."
"Weird... so, where we gonna meet your boss?"
"She's not my boss Sam, I'm a time lord, we don't have any boss."
River laughed without anyone noticing, work with the three guys would be pretty funny and she love all the funny moments in her job.
"Well, Sam and Dean, we have a bigger case than find more about the Weeping Angels, we need to find who left the book in your car, how the person knew about the Weeping Angels and you two, if we find the person we will know why are these creatures follow you. It's a clever idea, right? I'm very clever. Look at me, doing clever things." He started making strange expressions and moving the arms around, very proud of himself.
"Yea, Sherlock, you're really clever. How are we gonna find the person, we only have the book."
"Give me the book." Dean shared the book with him, he know that the Doctor wouldn't find anything because he saw the book and nothing was written or draw.
But well, the Doctor can find everything, for him nothing is impossible so after some minutes, even if it was some points with a pencil, he found the most important clue in all the story.
He picked up a pen and a sheet of paper and wrote the words that were marked with the pencil, small points in the beginning of each word and they started formed a quote. Not any quote but one that followed the Doctor for a long time, still hunting his days. He looked to the paper and read what he wrote for his companions.
"Run you clever boy and remember me." His face was white as the snow, his eyes were without expression. "I know who left the book with you Sam. But it can't... she's impossible. My Impossible Girl."
