I was sobbing hysterically as I saw my brother writhing and screaming in pain. His severed limb laying on the ground, unattached. It was hard to look at my brother already, through my teary eyes. Now how could I remain looking at him if he was like this?
"I...I..." Vibby stammered hysterically.
"Don't. I want nothing to do with you." I said softly.
"Tallulah, just l...listen to m..me!"
"No, I'm done with your excuses. Leave me."
She didn't get the hint. "No, j..just listen!"
"Leave, NOW!"
Vibby was sobbing uncontrollably while my brother lay gasping on the ground. I couldn't even stand to look at her anymore.
"If you don't leave within 1 hour, I'm killing both you and Tapp." I hissed.
Vibby got pale and slinked away from me. She was still weeping and looked to Tapp, who only got angrier by the minute.
"Who do you think you are, you little brat?" Tapp shouted.
"I'm the girl that saved you low-life freaks. I let you in and I just started to trust you. Now I obviously know why I can't."
"You think that killing us will solve all your problems? Huh? You think that you can make it on your own without getting pregnant or dying?"
"Of course I do. It's simple, you leave or you die. If my brother dies, you die. If you aren't gone by the time I finish helping Hecktor, you die. It's as simple as that and sure isn't rocket science."I saw the evil glimmer in Tapp's eyes while Vibby looked full of fear. They were very different people, who I wouldn't missed if I had to kill them. I don't even care if I'm being irrational or not. No one just chops my brother's arm off and leaves him to go cry in a corner.
I bent down to look at Hecktor again and I barely could without feeling the urge to cry. If I didn't do anything now, Hecktor would die. I took off my light jacket and wrapped it tight around Hecktor's bleeding arm. I had absolutely no idea what to do next and he couldn't just lay there wiggling around while he bled out.
I saw Daxton out of the corner of my eye and his pure fear and confusion. He shouldn't have come if I knew this was going to happen. I couldn't believe that on the one day I brought him here, Hecktor had an amputated arm. I should be worrying about my brother, not my crush/boyfriend thing.
"T..Tallulah......I kn..know how to help him." Vibby sputtered.
No, not her. Please anyone but her. She just amputated my brother's arm. Please, God no.
"Then tell me what to do. I can't trust you around anyone anymore. And how would you even know, witch?" I demanded.
"I was going for a medical degree. We learned this al...already. Please just let me help him. I've been trying to explain why I did what I did."
"I will have a gun on you at all times if you do not meet my commands. Go on then and fix him like you should have in the first place."
Vibby knelt beside Hecktor's twitching body. She asked for makeshift supplies every so often, to which I made Tapp be the slave for that. Once she got a hold of the prescription painkiller we had stolen, I was a bit hesitant. Hecktor seemed more relieved after 30 minutes or so.
She stood back up, shaking, and said, "I think I'm finished here. Just, please, let me explain!"
"Hurry, because you'll need time to pack your things." I asserted.
"Hecktor started getting restless waiting for you and attempted to leave. I proceeded to make him stay and I would tell him that wasn't a good idea. Finally, we made so much noise together that several mutants heard us and were up against the glass. I hate those things and immediately suggested we stay quiet and wait for them to scatter again. Hecktor wouldn't have it, since we were just arguing and he didn't want any part in listening. He went outside the doors and killed off most of them. I then heard a scream and a sob come from him as he ran into the store with a big, bloody scratch on his arm. I ran as fast as I could to lock up the doors and then tended to Hecktor. I saw the fear in his eyes as he realized he had been scratched. He told me to keep him from turning long enough that you could.. you know.. put him out of his misery. I cried at the thought and then discovered that if the infection had just been put into his blood stream, that maybe by cutting off the association, we could save him. Before I could think, I cut off the infected blood and then I understood what I just did. I went into shock and couldn't help but wait for you to come back. I could never express my sorrow to you and you can still send us on our way if you feel that's the best choice."
I couldn't believe what I had just heard. She.......She saved my brother, she didn't try to kill him. I must have looked like a fish.
"I'm really sorry, but I need to process this information. You, you can stay for the moment I'm gone." I replied.
I excused myself to the very small storeroom and sat there, thinking about what had just happened. I couldn't believe what I had heard. I thought on it and decided to hear Hecktor's side of the story when he woke up.
That night, I invited Daxton to stay so we could talk about what happened in this short amount of time. He didn't disagree, so that was a start. How was I supposed to crack his newfound attitude if all these obstacles got in the way?
He followed me to a secluded section of the store, away from the others. We sat down and I was still in disbelief after what occurred.
"Daxton, I am really sorry for what just happened today. I obviously didn't know that would happen."
"Neither did I, I mean your brother got scratched and possibly saved? That's unheard of."
"I really hope I don't scare you away. I want you to be a part of our group. I may be getting ahead of myself but I don't want you to just run away again. You're part of our family now, you mean a lot to me."
"I think I should be the one comforting you, you've been through too much today. Don't worry about me because I'm not going anywhere."
I smiled up at him and rested my head on his shoulder. We stayed like that for awhile until I thought that I should be by my brother. I got up and rested close to where Hecktor was stretched out like a dead fish.
What has happened to my screwed up life?
