Ruin yawns as Vapor and him walk down the castle hallway. "I'm sure he's fine. Can we go back to bed?"
"No. I'm going to check on him no matter what." Vapor said, rushing through the hallways. "I don't care how fine he is, I've just gotta check. It's a mother's instinct."
"Fine. I've never been a mother before. I've done something similar..." His voice trailed off. "Never mind."
"I would ask, but honestly I don't care."
They rushed into the bedroom door. Quietly, Vapor checked on her son. "Barbados? You okay?"
The Eevee opened his eyes. He yawned. "Y-yeah, thanks mommy..." He quickly fell back asleep.
Ruin yawned. "I told you that he is fine. Can we please go back to bed now?" He gestured towards the doorway with his tail.
"Hm...something is fishy..."
Her eyes began to change colors to dark blue. "I knew it!" She exclaimed. "He's wide awake under an illusion that he's asleep."
"I'm the psychic here. Let me check." The gem on the espeon's head illuminated the room for a second before dying down. "He is in fact wide awake." He yawned.
"Psychics ain't half as good as mothers. Or professionally trained Eevonian guards..." She muttered. "Anywho, something is possessing him, it seems."
"Something is possessing him? I can take care of that no problem."
He put a paw on the child's head and closed his eyes. A short time passed and Ruin jumped away from Barbados. "Ow! Ow!" He held on to his head.
"Wh-what did you do?!" Vapor yelled at the Espeon. "I could've gotten him myself, trust me."
"I tried a bit of telepathy. Whatever it is doesn't plan on leaving without a fight."
Vapor grinned. "I got this."
She stuck her hand on her son's forehead. Her eyes shut and her knees buckled as she fell to the ground.
"Vapor!" He ran to her side. "Are you okay?!"
She entered her son's mind as a voice was heard from the back of Ruin's head. "Touch Barbados's forehead! You'll be fine!"
She walked through the entryway, looking for the memory bank. Ruin shrugged and put a paw on the child's head.
Ruin appeared next to Vapor. "Oh there you are." She sighed. "Now where is the memory bank?"
"Let me see here... Ah! This way!" He walked off.
Vapor tackled him. "That's long-term memory you dingus! We'll get stuck forever in there. We're looking for the memory bank."
"We wouldn't get stuck!" Ruin exclaimed. "I've broken into enough people's minds to know what I'm doing."
"Even if," Vapor said matter-of-factly, "that's not where we want to go. Plus I've been in hundreds, maybe thousands of minds, trust me. Let's just find the nearby memory bank and see what's wrong."
He turns and walks in the direction of the memory bank. "Let's see what's going on in here."
About to enter, Vapor steps back. "Something is in there."
Ruin keeps walking. "And I'm up in the middle of the night because of it. What else is new?"
His face twisted into a snarl. A dark creature appeared and bit Ruin then dragged him in. Suddenly Ruin came out and he grinned at Vapor.
"You see, that was no problem," he said.
"Oh-kay..." Vapor said, as she and Ruin headed into the memory bank.
Ruin growled. "What are we looking for?"
Vapor sighed. "Haven't you been paying attention? Or did I not say it? Anywho, we are looking for the memory of Barbados meeting this creature. That is, to know what it is."
Ruin nodded. "I see. Perhaps we should try this way?" He pointed to a dark area.
"No, I know my way around the memory bank." She walked down a set of stairs. "Follow me."
He steps in front of Vapor. "I highly recommend that you turn around, darling."
"Darling?" She turned to him. "Now I know we're close and like each other and all that, but you have never once called me darling."
Her eyes turned black again. "Holy frick!" Her eyes turned to normal. "What did you do with the real Ruin?"
"Now why would you say such a thing? That's no way to speak to your mate, darling." Ruin smiled innocently.
Vapor knocked the creature into the dark area, where the scream of the actual Ruin was audible.
"Ruin!" She yelled. "I'm coming to get you!"
Two Ruins walked out of the shadows. Both of them had a wound on their neck. "Vapor! You're okay!" They both shouted simultaneously and looked at each other.
Vapor moaned. "Are you kidding me? How am I gonna know who is who? Maybe if I..."
Her eyes shut but suddenly didn't open. She reopened them but they were only regular form. "Dang it. Fine. I'll ask you questions only Ruin would know."
The one on the left spoke. "It's me Va-"
"Shut up, you!" The one on the right interrupted. "I'm the real Ruin and she knows it. Right?"
"Question number one: What is the full name of our former king of Eevonia and best friend?" Vapor asked, winking.
The one on the left mumbled. "Crap... Prog said it once."
The one on the right sat up straight. "Prognosto Secridorius Mindatus IV."
Vapor kicked the one on the right then used Surf on it, revealing it to be none other than Darkrai. "Aha! Ruin didn't know that! It was a trick!"
Darkrai glared at her, filled with anger. "I didn't possess your child, Vapor." He explained. "We made a deal. All demons make deals. It's the only way into people's minds. Possession is illegal and immoral, even to demons."
"Possession is illegal?" Ruin gulped. "Never mind that! What are you doing here?"
"Your son said he wanted to stop having horrid nightmares about his family." Darkrai said. "He thought it was me, but it wasn't. We later made a deal that with the lack of dreams he now has a new power, very strong. But also hard to control."
Vapor turned her head. "What kind of power?"
"Very strong power. Now we're talking! Very curious." He smiled.
"Darketus Decompfus, or Shadow Barbados as he and I have come to call it," Darkrai explained, "essentially gives him shadow powers or darkness powers. He can use Dark Pulse, Shadow Ball...it's sort of like what your kind refers to as Mega Evolution. Except this is usable only by Barbados."
"You said it is hard to control. What could go wrong with it?"
"Well it's a demon power. If he doesn't use all his power to keep his emotions happier," his eyes became grim. "Well...he could kill everyone."
"So he has to keep using the power or kill everyone?" Ruin asked. "That sounds simple enough. I don't really see anything wrong with that. But why Barbados?"
"No no no, you don't understand. He doesn't have to use the demon power he has to use his own power. Also..." Darkrai sighed. "The reason why Barbados is because he needed something. He asked for it. And I've known him since before birth."
Vapor walked in between the two. "Okay, hold up." She glares at Darkrai, then Ruin. "What does this power do to my baby?"
Ruin tilts his head. "Okay, I get the whole making a deal thing. But what's the real catch?"
"...Fine. You caught me." Darkrai said.
Vapor gasped. "What did you do?!"
"Well, he sort of has to use it at least twice a month or..." Darkrai frowned. "...well let's just say Shadow Barbados will be literal."
"There it is! These things always have a catch like that!" Ruin laughed. "I'll admit that's not what I expected. You could have gotten a lot more from a deal like that."
Vapor hit Ruin. She then looked up at Darkrai angrily. "Leave my child's mind at once." She said.
"Ow... What? I'm right. The kid got off lightly." The Espeon said, still smirking.
Vapor kicked Ruin harder causing him to get zapped out of Barbados's mind. She quickly followed.
Ruin got up. "Well that was smart. What a great plan."
"Whatever. Let's just head back to the cabin before -"
Suddenly, Barbados woke up and yawned. "Mama? Ruin?" He settled himself back into sleep.
Vapor lied next to him. "Ruin, go back to the cabin and if anyone asks, tell them I'm with Barbados," she whispered.
"Alright, I will." He whispered and walked out of the room.
