I'm driving down the road, knuckles white on the steering wheel. I'm such a nervous driver, but in this weather, who wouldn't be? I've even turned off the radio, silencing my playlist of Panic! At The Disco, Adele, and OneRepublic. The road before me is black as pitch, shimmering with ice under my bright headlights. The ground practically glints with the hint of danger to come. The windshield wipers pass in front of my vision, and I tense as more snow is wiped away from the glass. The frosty landscape around me would have been gorgeous if I hadn't been driving right now, heading home from work. It's only about six at night, but mid-January in Connecticut, that means it's too dark for a sixteen-year-old to be out driving in the middle of a god-damned blizzard.
The road ahead of me curves to one side, and I can't see anything past a few feet through the blanket of white. If someone comes around that corner too fast, I'm dead- perhaps literally. I stay to the very right or the road, hugging the guardrail.
And true to form, a large truck comes skidding around the corner, looking like it's about to slip right off the cliff-side road. It rights itself, but skids into my lane. I wrench the steering wheel to the right, cursing under my breath. I pull into a driveway half-hidden by a bank of snow, though the truck scrapes my back bumper. I look into the rearview mirror to make sure he's okay, but in the process I lose my focus on the drive in front of me. My tires squeal and slip sideways, sending me into a large bank of white.
A/N: Here's the first look! Dedicated to jamiekate13 for helping me out with the New England stuff and helping me decide on a location. I hope you enjoy 'One Chance'!
