The last year of high school. John worked 3 jobs to send Rawry to high school and raise money for college. John worked day and night, hardly getting any sleep except sunday. Rawry was used to that feeling. After graduation, he was accepted at Adelaide University. He applied to 12 different universities from all around the country and 1 accepted Rawry. He currently livs in Perth.
The move was okay. New house, new school, new friends. It was going to be fun. The move was only 'okay' because they had to drive for way too long, the gas cost too much, and he was sentimental that he had to leave his friends since primary school. He was also afraid if the new guys would like him. But the big problem was money. John had to quit his 3 jobs and now he needed to find 3 more.
John never went to college because he lived in the outback when he was young. In school days, John would often go finding lizards and not go to school. The outback was different from the cities.
The new house was a small house not too far from the university but not too close. Rawry had to go by bike to reach there.
3 days before the start of uni, john started his first work at a chain factory. 2 days before uni, Rawry was at home when a man knocked on the door. Rawry quickly ooened the door and the man started speaking.
"Rawry Pole?"
"Y-yes"
"Your father has been caught in a machine today and his body has been mutilated. We are very sorry about your loss. We would like to compensate you with 1000 dollars. It was an honor working with your father."
The man reached out the envelope containing 1000 dollars. But Rawry didn't respond nor did he recieve the envelope. The man put the envelope on the porch and went back to his car.
Rawry fell too his knees.
4 hours later Rawry was still in bed, not sleeping but thinking of the memories he made with his father. He remembered for his 14th birthday his dad got him a soccer ball. An actual soccer ball. Many kids would just buy it with their own pocket money but of course Rawry only dreamed of even borrowing one.
4 days into uni, everyone was avoiding him. Students, professors, everyone. They all gossiped and talked about how Rawry has the stutter and his father died trying to make money no more than some child's pocket money. If his dad were here, he would be sticking fliers on the walls saying,'DO NOT GOSSIP ABOUT RAWRY POLE. HE IS A GREAT SON.'
Rawry started to notice things more pessimistic than usual. He soon realised he was going through depression. He wanted to call his friends, if Rawry knew how a phone even worked.
Rawry put up his dad's funeral with the compensation. No one came. Of course no one did. They were a nobody. If they knew them, they would be back in Perth.
Rawry was barely surviving with the money in his dad's bank account. 467 dollars and 85 cents. The move sure did take a lot.
Eventually, the next train comes when the time is right. When the time is right, it hits you.
