"Mmoomm! I'm bored!" My white paws danced restlessly across the den floor.

"Would you like to hear a story?" she asked with excited eyes. I scooted towards her and rested my head on my paws, listening intently.

"In the beginning of time, we wolves had our golden age. Great pack mentality and our finest Alphas: Akina and Juno. They ruled with supremacy, until one wolf craved dominance with a fatal obsession. His name was Denali, and he tried to overthrow the whole pack. He killed both Alpha's, and most of their elders. He got away before they could stop him, and recruited an army of coyotes. That was the Winter War. The war that changed our species forever, but improved our rule and judgment. We won with Fauna on our side, and we still honor our creator today. Our fur turned white with victory, and that of our enemies turned as black as their souls. Some even suggest that a pack, gray as the mist that hugs the trees, slipped away like shadows during the war. Some even call them the Shadowclan. We are called the Alliance, and the black wolves are called the Nighthowlers."

I looked up at her with big, curious eyes, "Why are we called the Alliance, why not something cool like Silverstream? Or like the white pack, I don't know."

"Because there is no way to describe our magnificence full scale. We are the Alliance because we work together to keep the forest a safe and comfortable environment, and anyone can trust us as their allies." she explained

"Why should I stay away from the Nighthowlers?"

"They are an extremely dangerous species: they live in Death Valley, which is riddled with disease from the decaying animals of the graveyard."

I sighed with frustration, "None of this makes sense, mom. Why do they stay in Death Valley then?"

She chuckled to herself, "So much to learn, LittlePaw. The Alliance has many guards around the perimeters of the Nighthowlers  territory so they can't pose a threat to the surrounding community. We force them to feast on the cactus's and decaying remains of animals so they can pay for what they did to the woodland creatures during the Winter War. They are crawling with diseases and parasites which cause them to go rabid. One day, LittlePaw, they will break free and wreak havoc on their sworn enemies."

My paws started to tremble, "And who is their sworn enemy."

"Us, my pup. If you find a wolf as black as a moonless night, pray to Fauna it does't see you. Enough for today, go outside and play."

Dazed, I stumbled out of the den and into the woods.
