"We often  try to hide our feelings, but we forget that our eyes speak. You see, Tom and Nora were close enough to see the pain deep inside the other's eyes. In that sense, their friendship was magical and one that was admired by the other students. But in the same sense, it was something that put a target on both of their backs, the students at Hogwarts are not always the nicest and because of the close friendship many students were either jealous or angry."

Nora's POV

I was walking to my next class, Herbology, not one of my favorite classes but I still walked at a quick pace to be on time. It was about half way through first year and Tom and I have remained friends just like I knew we would! Though it has been hard, we only have a few classes together and those we do, we are hardly able to sit by each other, Herbology being one of those classes.

I was almost to the Herbology, when my foot collided with another foot and went crashing to the ground. My books scattered all over the floor of the castle corridor and my knees collided with the same stone. "Oh sorry, didn't see you there." I looked up to see the smirking face of an evil looking girl in the same green robes that Tom wears. "Lionel, what a dumb name, and your not even that pretty I don't know what Tom sees in you, no one really does. He should be with his own people like me!" Then she spat at me and continued on her day. I was left to clean up my books and now I'm sure I was late.

The door to the Herbology classroom creaked open and the whole class turned with wide eyes at me. "Why Miss. Lionel, how nice of you to final join us, make sure you are on time tomorrow, yes?"

"Yes sir, sorry." I bowed my head and quickly took the closest seat available, which was beside a first year Gryffindor. I'd seen him around, think his name was Killian but I'm not quit sure.

I was pulling out my notebook when I felt something hit my back then crumple to the floor. It was a piece of parchment that was crushed into a small ball. I looked around and saw Tom looking at me expectantly and nodded to the paper still on the ground. I picked it up and unwrinkled it to find Tom's scrolling handwriting.  'You okay?'

I quickly wrote back, 'Fine.'  and turned my attention to the professor.

Finally, class ended and I rushed out of the classroom. Half way down the corridor I was stopped by a hand reaching out and grabbing my arm. I turned sharply on my heels and faced Tom. "Why did you lie to me?" he seemed genuinely confused.

"What are you talking about?" Although I had an idea as to what he was alluding to.

"You said you were fine when I know you're not. What happened before class, why were you late, you're never late. Why did you lie to me, I thought we agreed never to lie to each oth-"

"Tom, you're rambling." I giggled.

"Sorry, but why did you lie?" he questioned.

"Look Tom, I'd rather not talk about it. Please respect that." It killed me not to tell Tom, but I didn't want him to worry.

"I respect you Nora, but we have to stick together, if something happened to you, I want to know." He was stern yet caring, a combination he only used with me.

"Fine, but don't get angry. This isn't Wool's anymore, okay?" Tom nodded his head with hesitation but I continued, "A Slytherin girl tripped me and made fun of me for being friends with you. That's why I was late."

"Who was it?! Nora you tell me now! Who was it?" he commanded through clenched teeth.

"I don't know Tom, she was a brunet with a turned up nose, in Slytherin by her robes. That's all I know about her." Tom turned away and started to walk to the Slytherin common room, no doubt to find this girl who had hurt me. "Tom NO! You said you wouldn't get angry!"

He stopped and turned his head, "I don't get mad, Nora, I get even." He continued to walk down the corridor. I rushed after him and grabbed his hand. "Nora let go."

"No Tom! Tom wait!"

"No Nora, I'm doing this for you, can't you see? People who hurt you hurt me, we have to make an example out of this girl."

"No we don't Tom," my voice quieter now, "don't you know Tom, the true mark of maturity is when somebody hurts you and you try to understand their situation instead of trying to hurt them back. We have to look at it from her perspective Tom."

"What could possibly be a good enough reason to hurt you, Nora, my Nora. So sweet and innocent, how could anyone hurt you on purpose? Don't you want revenge?" It was clear he meant every word, and his confusion showing on his face. All I wanted to do was hug him, so I did.

"Look Tom, it's awful, and a part of me does want to hurt her back and let her know that no matter what you will be my best friend, not her's, but then I think back to what Professor Dumbledore said to us at Wools. Don't you remember how ashamed he was when he found out what we did to the other students? He said that this kind of behavior, the actions we have resulted to for the past few years, is not acceptable here at Hogwarts. Tom, this school has been the best thing to happen to me since I became friends with you. Please don't ruin it."

"I'm sorry Nora, I didn't know it meant so much to you. Come on then, let's go to the astronomy tower." Then he lead me away.

A/N: Sorry it's kind of short. I wanted to give you guys something and I think this chapter does a good job and showing how Nora calms the angry  Tom, and that is crucial to the plot. So this was kind of a filler chapter but it was important for character development! Hope you guys enjoyed it!
