[a/n every time the story is told in Nora or Tom's pov it is a flashback, the only thing in present time is Dumbledor]

"Now here is where I come in, the day I met Tom and this mysterious Nora. I went to Wool's orphanage, where they both grew up..."

Nora's POV

Tom and I were in his room, like we usually are. I have met him a month ago and I already feel like he is family, except he is always holding back a little anger. Hopefully, more time with MEEEEE will wash it away. We were just talking and showing each other our 'specialness' when there was a knock on the door, then the overly joyous women ( I never bothered to learn her name) walks in; "Nora, Tom. You have a visitor." she sounded quite shocked which made me very offend, just because we don't get visitors every day it is so unordinary! sheesh! She ushered a man with graying hair and a long robe into the room then walked out closing the door behind her.

I turn my attention to the strange man, Tom spoke first; "you're the doctor aren't you?"

"No, I'm a professor----" he replied, he was about to continue when I interrupted him; "I don't believe you....she wanted us looked at, they all think we are....Different." I say, speaking for Tom too. Tom told me that every month she says that she wants him to see a doctor, I didn't believe him until she told me the same thing a few days after I met Tom.

"Perhaps they're right" the 'professor' man said.

It was Tom who spook next; "We're not mad!"

"Hogwarts is not a place for mad people. Hogwarts is a school, a school of magic." he explained. Tom and I were silent now, did such a place even exists, surely scientists would have known about it and magic. But it did make sense, us with our 'specialness' at all. "you two can do things can't you Tom, Nora. Things other children can't"

"We can make things move without touching them" I say.

"We can make animals do what we want without training them" Tom adds.

"I can make bad things happen to those who are mean to Tom. I can make them hurt if, if I want" I continue, looking at Tom. It was my job to protect him, so I've been using my 'specialness' against those who hurt him and make fun of him. I know it's wrong, but I can't just watch it happen, so I do the only thing I know how to.

"Who are you?" it was Tom who asked the question we both were thinking.

"Well I am like you....I'm different." the man answered, I don't know if I believe him or not and I could tell by the look on Tom's face he didn't either.

"Prove it." I retaliate. He did. Tom's closet caught on fire! How cool is that! I look over at the now smiling Tom and I smile too. Somebody who understands what it's like being different, finally.

"I think there's something in your wardrobe trying to get out, Tom." Tom listens to the man's unsaid instructions and walks over to the closet and opens it. He pulled out a box and when he did the wardrobe door shut and the flames stopped, leaving the wardrobe looking as if nothing happened. I recognized the box, it was where we put all the things that we took from the other children. Tom laid the contents out on his bed next to me. "Thieving is not tolerated at Hogwarts. At Hogwarts you will not only be taught how to use magic, but how to control it. You understand me?" we both just stared at him not sure what to believe. Then he was walking towards the door. He almost made it, before Tom spoke up and revealed the one thing we didn't tell the strange man; "We both can speak to snakes too," the man stopped walking but didn't turn around, "they find us, whisper things, is that normal for people like us?" Tom actually sounded concerned, something I have heard very little of. The man finally turned back around to face us; "you both have a great gift" then walked out, leaving us alone. I just stared at the door frame where the man had just walked out of.

After a while I felt the bed dip, Tom had sat down next to me. For once I was speechless, so we both just sat there in silence. It was a comfortable silence, but a silence filled with thought.

****

Dumbledor paused in his story as he looked out at his students. The look of wonder on their pure faces, the ones of the first years in particular. So he pondered for a minute trying to decide what words to use. Then he sighed and addressed the unasked question they were all dying to ask, "If you're all wondering, no. No I did not know that I had just met the most evil wizard that has ever lived. But I will tell you one thing, I felt a different vibe from the two of them. Nora gave off a much more welcoming yet curious vibe when I first walked in. Where as Tom had more of an accusing tone. Although, take into account that Nora's turned dark when she talked of the other children. There was no remorse in her voice as she talked of all the awful things they've done to the kids at Wool's.  That's why Tom and Nora got along so well. So no, I didn't know that the boy in front of me was going to destroy  humanity, but I did know that the bound between the two 9 yr olds was stronger than any magic I had witnessed. It was strong enough for a bright girl to do dark thing for a boy she had merely met a month prior. That's how close they had grown. And at  Hogwarts, that bound would grow into something unbreakable." The old man took a breath and the started back up with the story.
