Chapter 2
After School
I sighed, trudging through my house to find the kitchen. What a day.. I tripped Veronica, Eli asked to hang out, and some very attractive guy named Matt asked me to meet him at band practice tonight. Oh, crap! I gotta start getting ready. I ran upstairs to my room and rummaged through my closet in attempt to find an outfit. Aha! Pantera shirt and camo shorts. I quickly put on the outfit before running to my bathroom. I ran my straightening iron through my hair a few times before winging out my eyeliner.
Taadaa, I look decent now. As if on cue, my phone rang. I have no idea who this is. I picked it up and clicked 'answer' anyway. "LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!" I screamed. A soft chuckle was heard from the other line. "Layna, have I ever told you that you're a nerd?" I heard a familiar voice say. Oh shit.. It was Matt. "Well, considering I've only met you today.. No. You haven't." I giggled. "Wait.. How did you get my number? I questioned. "I have my ways," You could practically hear the smile in his voice. "Anyways. You coming over or what?"
"Duh. What's your address?"
"1249 Woody st. The garage door's open, you'll see us."
"Sounds like a plan. Byyee." I hung up.
Suppressing a squeal, I ran downstairs and slipped on my Converse. Just as my mom walked in. My parents got divorced when I was 11. It was difficult. I got in a huge fight with my dad the day their divorce was finalized.. I haven't talked to him since my 14th birthday. But mom and I are managing quite well. Thankfully.
"Hey, honey! Why are you all dolled up?" She asked with a grin. I shook my head, "Well, a new friend of mine asked if I wanted to go see his band practice tonight." I smiled, twiddling my thumbs. Oh dear god. Here we go. She squealed. "YOU MET A BOY?! WHAT'S HIS NAME? HOW OLD IS HE? DOES HE SMOKE?!?! HAS HE EVER BEEN ARRESTED?!" She managed to scream all of that in one breath. My mother's always telling me to go socialize and meet a boy. She's like an annoying, protective sister at times. It's strange.
"Mom, mom, mom. Calm yourself. He's not a criminal.." I chuckled, "Now, if you'll excuse me, I must be off. I'll be home for dinner. Love you." I kissed her cheek and ran out before she could ask any more crazy questions.
Being as he doesn't live very far away, I walked to Matt's house. I pulled my iPod out of my pocket, along with my earbuds. I turned on The Noose by A Perfect Circle, not noticing the car that had pulled up next to me until just now.. Why. Why me. It's Veronica and Eli. Somebody shoot me now. I reluctantly pulled my earbud out, "What do you need, Veronica?" I asked, crossing my arms over my chest.
"I.. wanted to know if.." She cringed, "Spit it out, I have somewhere to be." I snarled. She scoffed. "I wanted to know if you wanted to come to my party this Saturday." She finally said. HAHA HOW 'BOUT NO. Why would I want to go to a party hosted by some bitch that I hate?
"Now.. Why would I do that? So you both can humiliate me in front of your douche bag friends? I think I'll pass." I retorted before stomping away. A faint screech was all I heard behind me.
Finally, I reached Matt's house. A tall, skinny, dark-haired boy tackled me into the grass. "You must be Layna! I'm Jimmy. THE ULTIMATE STALLION DUCK ASSASSIN!" He shouted with a smile. I laughed softly. "It's nice to meet you, Jimmy. Could you.. Like.. Get off of me? You're a lot heavier than you look." He jumped up, pulling me up with him. "Wee!" He ran back into the garage, flailing like a total idiot. Chuckling, I followed. Matt stood by the microphone stand, shaking his head. "Jimmy, what did I say about tackling people?" Said Matt as he glanced at Jimmy.
Jimmy pursed his lips at Matt, "But.. But.. It's so fun!" He whined. "You're gonna injure someone one of these days." Matt spoke, before glancing at me. I watched as his lips curved into a small, his cheeks flashing a soft pink. Which caused my heart to skip a beat. I practically melted under his gaze. Jeez, could he please stop being so freaking attractive?!
"Layna, this is Zacky," Matt pointed to a blonde haired, green eyed boy who had two lip piercings. He flashed me a warm smile and waved. I waved back, "I like your piercings, Zacky. My mother would kill me if I got my lip pierced." I chuckled. "Yeah, my mom wasn't too happy either." He responded with a soft laugh.
Matt smiled at me once more, seeming happy that I'm already getting along with his friends. "And this is Brian, but he insists that we call him Syn or Synyster." Syn grabbed my hand and kissed my knuckles softly. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Ms. Layna." He cooed. Everyone busted out laughing, I shook my head and smiled. "The feeling's mutual."
He smirked and stepped back, "This.. Is Johnny. Or short shit." He slapped his friend's back, causing the much shorter boy to wince. I smiled, "It's nice to meet you, Johnny." I watched as his cheeks flushed a bright red. "I-It's nice to meet you too, Layna."
Matt clapped his hands together loudly, causing all of us to turn towards him. "Alright. Shall we get started?" All of them shouted "YEAH!" and took their places. Jimmy sat behind his drum set, Syn stood by his amp with his Epiphone guitar, as did Zacky. "This one's called An Epic of Time Wasted."
So much time I've wasted.
That I truly never thought it would really come to this.
Never would I doubt you, but the truth kept smacking me in the face.
Reality. You never stopped to think and you ripped us apart.
How could you? Now our time is gone but now it's breaking my heart.
Tears run down as I think of the days we've had,
And the memories will last forever,
But you and I have died and gone our separate ways.
You are the one.
You are the wrong one.
Breaking the mold.
Going your own way.
All I feel, betrayal.
So much time I've wasted, and I never thought it'd come to this.
Apology.
We had something great, then it was washed away.
We had something more, then I can explain.
I'm sorry. No! We had something great, then it was washed away.
No! Not all friendships last, the genuine are harder to take.
No! Time to start again, hope someday you'll think of me.
No! The end reality, I know someday I'll think of you.
They all laughed when they looked at me. My jaw was on the ground. I think I just discovered my new favorite band. They're amazing! How are they not famous already?
"I'm guessing you liked it?" Said Matt as a smirk tugged at his lips. "LIKED? UM. NO. MORE LIKE LOVED." Jimmy squealed and picked me up, spinning in circles. "I'M THE BEST DRUMMER EVER!" I laughed, nodding. "Damn straight!"
My gaze met Matt's as Jimmy set me down, a smile creeping on me. "So.." He started, "Do you play any instruments?"
"Drums, piano, I sing and I'm currently learning guitar." They all just about shit their pants when I said that. "I'm guessing you all are in love with me now."
"YEP." They shouted in unison. I chuckled quietly, "Layynnaaa! You should sing Warmness On The Soul with Matt next week at our first gig!" My eyes widened. I have major stage fright. Always have. Always will. It sucks balls. It really does. I'd love to be in a band one day, but how am I gonna do that when I'm afraid to even step on stage?
Jimmy looked at me with big blue puppy dog eyes. How could I say no to that? "But.. I.. Ehh.. Fine.."
I hesitantly agreed. This should be fun..
