Chapter 3
Gig Day
Somebody kill me. Today was the guys' gig. I didn't wanna get on stage and sing. What if I screwed up? What if I pissed myself on stage? WHY ARE THEY MAKING ME DO THIS. This is not okay.
Sighing, I grabbed a pair of shorts from my closet. I had about two hours until I had to leave. My mom was coming with. Which added more pressure.
I slipped on my torn black jeans shorts, which were extremely tight. In a good way. There was a knock on my door. I already know who it is.
"Come in, mom." She opened the door slightly, her head peaking in. "Hi, sweetie." I smiled slightly, "Hiiii." She slipped in and sat on my bed.
"Nervous?"
"Very."
"I've heard you sing before, hun. You're amazing! Don't be nervous. Everyone will love you."
"Thanks, mom." I chuckled softly, "I hope everyone will.. I've never sang in front of a crowd before." She patted my shoulder, "You'll do great."
I smiled crookedly, "Well, you should probably start getting ready. I'm gonna finish up here and then maybe we can go to dinner afterwards?"
"Sounds like a plan, Stan!" After that, she left, leaving me to finish getting ready.
After I pulled on a Mastodon t-shirt, straightened my ebony, shoulder length hair and did my make up, I walked down stairs. "I'mmm doonneee."
"Alright. Let's go." We both slipped on our shoes before trotting to the car.
After dinner, we drove to the little pub the guys' were performing at, my heart beat increasing as we walked inside. I was a nervous wreck.
I saw them and ran over with my mom, "Hey, sweetcheeks!" Jimmy hugged me, then decided to bow and kiss the top of my mom's hand. "You must be Layna's amazing mother. I, James Owen Sullivan, am the ultimate drummer/stallion duck assassin." The guys started to snicker as I blushed with embarrassment.
My mom giggled like a school girl, "It's nice to meet you, James." He grinned, "Please. Call me Jimmy." I rolled my eyes. "Okay, Jimbo. Stop flirting with my mom." He whined like a child and hid behind Brian. Matt smiled at me, "You learned the lyrics and everything, right?"
I nodded, "Sure did." He smiled even wider, dimples dotting his cheeks. "Good. We're gonna play Turn The Other Way, An Epic of Time Wasted, The Art of Subconscious Illusion then Warmness On The Soul."
"Sounds good." I flashed him a bright smile. Even in the dim lighting, I could still see his cheeks flush a soft pink. Is it possible that he may have a crush on me? Pff. No. Who would love someone like me? I'm not blonde like Veronica, I'm not a cheerleader, I'm not tan, I don't dress girly.. I'm just me.
20 minutes later
I went apeshit when they started played Turn The Other Way. My mom also danced with me as we laughed like idiots. We shared the same taste in music. Hell, she's the one who got me into music.
Ohshit. The Art of Subconscious Illusion was already almost over. Which means that it's almost time to sing Warmness On The Soul. Sweet baby Jesus take the wheel.. My heart rate increased as the oh-so-familiar nervous feeling took over me.
Oh great. The song ended.
"Now.. We have a special guest who's gonna help me sing this one," Matt started, which caused me to gulp. My mom patted my back, "You got this!"
"Layna, get your little ass up here."
Hesitantly, I hopped on stage, shaking nervously. The small crowd roared with excitement as I stood behind the keyboard. Matt smiled and rested his hand on my shoulder, "This one's called Warmness On The Soul."
