The sound of Kricketune brought me back to my senses. The chirping already told me it was dark out before I even had to open my eyes. I moaned and lifted my head, peeling my eyes open slowly. I saw glowing puffballs dancing in my vision and I had to blink to clear them. All around me were Illumise, dancing in circles with their glowing lights illuminating the darkness of the forest. A massive ache in my head caused me to lay it back onto the forest floor and groan.
What happened to me? I thought to myself as I tried to go over how I got to the forest floor. I was getting ready to make some food for everyone...but then...
My eyes widened in shock as I remembered all of the details of what had happened. As best I could, I pushed myself from the ground and sat up, startling the Illumise. They evaluated me for a few seconds before continuing to dance, deeming that I wasn't a threat. On the ground where my head was, I saw a patch of grass stained in red. With a bit of fear, I touched my head and winced when I found the wound that had opened.
With a heavy sigh, I looked around at where I was. The once bright forest was now filled with so much darkness it was like a black fog had rolled in. A few Kricketune and Kricketot peeked out from behind trees to stare at me as they chirped. Scatterbug's and Spewpa dotted the forest floor, trying to figure out why a human was so deep in the forest and a ton of Caterpie and Wurmple's inched across the grass and up into trees, leaving behind thin trails of string.
I stood up and stumbled as my right foot almost gave way. Groaning deeply, I looked up and saw the ledge I had rolled off of. Hanging from a branch protruding from it was my backpack and fanny pack. I contained my relief and limped towards the edge to try and reach it, however, I wasn't tall enough. It was too high up.
Suddenly from behind me, I heard a low buzz that penetrated the sound of the forest. I turned and gasped as a Yanma flew out of the trees and above the Illumise, who were still dancing and having a good time.
The large, red dragonfly Pokemon flew around in a lazy circle before spotting me. It saw my hand reaching for my things and instantly went for it. The Yanma grabbed the straps with it's six, thin black legs and pulled them from the branch.
"Thank you so much, Yanma! Now could please...hand it...over?" My question slowed as I watched him turn away from me and head back into the forest with my fanny pack and backpack. "Hey, wait! That's mine!"
As fast as I could, I scrambled after it, tripping over vines and dodging trees. The Yanma paid no attention to me as it glided through the trees with expertise.
I ran, or rather limped, after it, calling out for it to drop my stuff. Right after I said that, the Yanma flew straight up and disappeared into the thick leaves of a tree. I ran right towards it and bent over on my legs to take a breather. However, as soon as I stood up, I gasped.
The tree the Yanma flew into wasn't an ordinary tree. It was enormous, reaching up higher than I could see. It's leaves were spotted with Illumise, making it look like a giant holiday ornament. I walked towards it, feeling the roots that rose from the ground, rough underneath my hand.
With a heave, I climbed on top of one of the roots and traveled along it, narrowing my eyes up into the branches of the tree in hopes of spotting the Yanma. I took a small step and like a force pushing against my leg, my foot slipped from under me. I fell over and waited to hit the ground, but it never happened. My scream echoed throughout the forest as I watched the sky above me disappear and turn into nothing but a small hole. The tree branches above became furthur and furthur away as I fell down the hole that was at the base of the tree.
Before I could even get a hold of my bearings, I was dropped into a deep pool of water. I gathered as much strength as possible and pulled myself to the surface. With a gasp and through my water filled eyes, I spotted solid ground and swam towards it.
