Chapter 11:
Back the Fuck Up – Faces change in the same old places
7th October 2008: IV
It was the itching that woke me up. It was not a surface itch, like on the skin. This was coming from inside of me, coming from my stomach. It was infuriating because I couldn't get at it to scratch it! Must be something to do with that pill I took yesterday. "Damn it!" I said out loud.
"Wazzat?" Roo's sleepy drawl came from his futon.
"That pill I took yesterday, I think it is making my stomach itch." I complained, giving it a scratch all the same.
"Really? My cut is alright." He sat up and checked. "Damn that cream works well, that cut is all but gone now and it didn't even leave a scar!" He laughed. "Bit of a shame though, the girls like scars!" We both laughed that time. "What time is it anyway?"
"Dunno, maybe around seven? You wanna get up?"
"Yeah, I’m really hungry."
"Already? Alright, let's go for breakfast."
We got up, put on our yukatas and headed off. Okami smiled at us as we walked by and we gave her a wave back. Inside the small restaurant area, we found ourselves a table and sat down. There was another couple sitting to the side of us, blurry and unfocused. They already had their food; it was the same food as we had been eating since we arrived. "They have got to get a McDonalds in this place!"
"Yeah, even I'm getting fed up of the same food here."I shot the offending dishes a disgusted look.
We sat there and Fuhyō came out of the kitchen area, acknowledged us and walked back to get our food. We sat in silence, listening to the sound of the two next to us having their breakfast. Fuhyō emerged a few minutes later carrying a tray of our food. She reached us and was preparing to pass the food to us when the pink phone which I had placed on the table, old habits dying hard and all that, suddenly came to life and sounded its alarm while vibrating too. The noise took Fuhyō completely by surprise, she screamed and her whole body jumped. All the items on the tray bounced and clinked together and green tea leaped out over the side of the cup and onto the floor. The shadows at the table next to us also jumped, I didn't know whether it was from the shock of the phone alarm or from Fuhyō's scream. One of them flipped a bowl of rice over and onto the floor and the other dropped its chopsticks. Okami came running in as did a shadowy form wielding a cleaver, from the kitchen.
"Erm sorry guys, it’s a false alarm!" I said feeling my cheeks grow red with embarrassment. Okami said something to Fuhyō who quickly gave us our food and ran back into the kitchen followed by the cook before coming back out with a wooden brush to clean up all the rice.
"Are you two alright?" Okami asked.
"Yeah, fine thanks, sorry again about that."
"That is ok, accident right?" She smiled and walked back to the reception.
"False alarm?" Roo asked. "That had got to be the biggest pun ever." He laughed which made me feel slightly better. I looked over to the other table; its occupants had returned to their food and I started to eat mine.
After eating we took a bath and put our kimonos on. "What to do today?" Mused Roo out loud.
"What is there to do here except get eaten by huge beasts. Okami should be able to fix us up with something safe."
"Cool, just don't go scaring anyone else. This whole place seems to be on edge!"
Can't blame them with random monster attacks all the time, I thought.
