Chapter 10:
Author Unknown – Ask your question and listen closely
11th September 2008
I woke up to find myself scratching at some mosquito bites I had received the previous day. "Damn it!" I said to myself.
"Yuh say summint?" Roo said, half asleep.
"Yeah, got mozzi bites on my arm, bugging the hell out of me!"
"Bugging? Is that a pun?"
"No, too early for puns!"
"Kay, what time 'zit?" I checked the bedside clock.
"Quarter to seven dude, you wanna get up?"
"Not really but the jetlag doesn't want me to sleep!"
"I'm hearing you man, McD's?"
"Again? Really?"
"You got a better suggestion?"
"Well." There was silence for a moment before Roo continued, "Fuck it!" That was all we needed before we got up, threw on some clothes and went downstairs. Before we went out, we decided to go on the computer facilities the hostel had. There was a spare one by the reception desk which I jumped on; and Roo had to go down to the crappy ones in the basement lounge.
"Later bro." I said with a smile. Roo gave me a look of irritation and headed downstairs. I spent a few minutes chatting to Jessie online. It was good to be able to talk to her, thank god for the internet! Unfortunately, it was late back home in the UK so she had to sign off and go to bed. I carried on uploading some of our pictures and surfing the internet. I was lost in thought when a voice interrupted my daydreaming.
"2D?" I looked up, there was a woman speaking to me and the two other guys using the other computers. "Are any of you in room 2D?" She looked a bit pissed off. 2D, was that us? Bloody jetlag, can't think properly!
"Why is that?" I asked somewhat dazed.
"An alarm clock is going off in room 2D, I can't get any fucking sleep!" She said that last part without any anger but there was a definite hint of irritation within it.
"Room 2D?" I said to myself, both the other two were shaking their heads. Room 2D, alarm clock, I set our alarm last night. Room 2D. 2D. ROOM 2D!
"Room 2D eh? You had better check downstairs, there may be people down there." I made it sound as convincing as I could.
"Ok, thanks." She said and headed off downstairs. I let out a sigh of relief; I didn't want to be the one who would piss her off. She looked a tad angry. I turned back to the computer and waited, a minute later she came back upstairs.
"Did you find them?" I asked knowing full well she had.
"Yeah, some guy downstairs." She said as she walked off back to her room. Then an irritated Roo appeared and walked over to me.
"Shit, I need our room key, we left the alarm clock on in our room, some woman just came downstairs see whose room it was." I couldn't conceal my smile! "You knew about this?" I burst out laughing, though Roo didn't seem too impressed. "Did she ask you?"
"Yeah," I said whipping a tear from my eye. "I panicked, and anyway, little brothers are there to take the blame for older ones!" I gave him a big grin and even he couldn't stay mad. He laughed, took the keys and punched me on the arm before trudging up the stairs to fix the alarm.
When he returned I finished using the computer and we left for breakfast. Being creatures of habit, we chose the same McDonalds meal as the previous days. Fed and watered, we walked back. "These mosquito bites are killing me!" I said to Roo while trying not to scratch my arm raw.
