Splat, splat.
I watched the rain in silence from my spot on the roof. My hair was nearly soaked, and my limbs were numb without a coat. My fingers twitched painfully around the lit cigarette.
London's always raining.
I peered down at the streets below me. Herds of pedestrians bustled about, trying to escape the sudden shower. I take a long drag on my cigarette, savoring the hot sensation burning my throat before puffing the smoke back out into the frigid air.
I should be in my chemistry class right now. I laughed at the thought, grinding the cigarette beneath my combat boots.
"School..." I mumble.
I take a final, longing glance around the empty roof before turning to leave back down the fire escape. I often come to the hospital roof when I'm feeling hollow. I spent a fair amount of time here as a kid, watching the life leave her eyes and the color leave her cheeks.
I cringe at the memory, and walk faster, trying to etch the thought out of my mind. Perhaps coming here was a mistake after all.
Before any of the hospital staff spot me, I make my descent on the slick staircase. The fire escape is really only to be used in emergencies, but treading those hallways could pull up some more vivid recollections.
The light rain has turned into a full-blown downpour at this point. The cold leaves delicious burns on my bare arms. I sigh, earning a puff of steam into the freezing air. I'll just head home.
I set a brisk pace down the crowded streets, but only make it a few yards when I catch glimpse of familiar, black hair. The figure bobs between the other pedestrians, quite a bit shorter than most of the people in the street. The stride of the short boy vanquishes any doubt in m mind. It's him. I quickly turn around, praying that he didn't see me.
"(Y/n)!" I hear him shout.
I stop in my tracks with a groan, turning around to face the boy now running to catch up with me.
"Ciel," I greet curtly.
The boy is still clad in his school uniform, soaked to the edges and panting.
I roll my eyes and cross my arms over my chest. "You shouldn't be out without a coat, it's bad for your asthma."
The dripping boy glares daggers at me from a below a curtain of eyelashes. I stand nearly a foot taller than him, and any attempts he makes to appear threatening only make me laugh.
"What're you doing here?" I ask after he catches his breath.
"That's my line. You can't keep cutting classes, even the principal is starting to grow impatient with you."
I grunt. "You sound like my aunt."
He ignores the insult and begins to dig around in his messenger bag. He fishes out a small stack of papers and thrusts them in my direction.
"Here. These're the notes you missed today."
I shrug off my own backpack and stuff the papers in carelessly, muttering a thanks.
I sigh, taking a glance at Ciel's appearance. His frail frame is shivering like mad, and his uniform is drenched. I recall him telling me that he lives with a rather strict caretaker, who probably wouldn't be too pleased with the condition of his attire.
Before giving it a second thought, I grab his hand, walking quickly down the street.
"Ah- (y/n)! Where are we going?"
"My place."
"W-why? If you have questions about the homework-"
"Shut up."
"..."
I continue dragging the boy for another few blocks. I know all the ins and outs of London, and with an array of shortcuts, we make it back to my flat in only a few minutes.
Calling the place 'run-down' would be an understatement. The complex was practically falling apart at this point. Besides the landlady, there was only one other resident in the whole complex. The other resident was a nice old man named Tanaka. He had stuck with this place like I had over all these years, despite the numerous repairs it had cost the two of us. In truth, I just couldn't bear to leave this place, no matter how ugly it got.
I dragged Ciel up the flight of stairs to my flat door. The door is unlocked, and I walk into the living room and toss my bag down on the couch. Ciel stands a bit awkwardly in the doorway, clasping and unclasping his hands.
"Wait here a second," I tell him, leaving him alone in the room.A/N- hey guys! Here's the first chapter of my newest kuro story, hope you like it! I'll try to update soon. Let me know what you think so far :)
