As soon as the session ended, I was surrounded by my teammates. They all wanted to know if I'd be alright. Lucy apologised and I reluctantly forgave her, not being one to hold grudges.
I told everybody what Brooklyn had said and eventually they all dispersed and began heading home. Sophie grinned down at me. "Trust you to get injured on the first session back," she joked, holding out a hand to help me up.
Gratefully, I took it and she pulled me to my feet as Dan came over carrying the bag of footballs. "What've you done then, Charlotte?"
I told him about the possible fracture as he shook his head in dismay. "Come here," he said, wrapping his arm around me to help me back to my car. Soph walked alongside, joking, trying to cheer me up.
"I'll be able to beat you in a race now, won't I?"
I smirked, "I'd probably still beat you on crutches."
Dan snorted with laughter, just as I saw a male figure heading towards us. Broad shoulders, tall, and handsome. Brooklyn was back.
"Back so soon?" I joked, as he smiled at me.
Immediately, he turned to Dan. "I'll help her to her car mate, I need to speak to her parents anyway."
As they discussed my injury, Sophie nudged me. "That's Brooklyn?" She whispered.
I nodded, smiling at my best friend. "Sure is."
"He's hot." She was nodding approvingly.
As Dan and Brooklyn's conversation continued, I recounted what had happened with him earlier to Sophie in a hushed voice.
She grinned the whole way through my story occasionally murmuring about me being a 'lucky bitch.'
By the time I'd told her everything, Dan was walking away and Brooklyn took his place by my side. "Alright, let's go."
One arm was once again round my waist and his other reached across me as he held his hand out to Sophie. "I'm Brooklyn."
Sophie shook his hand. "Sophie."
"I like your boots," he replied, a grin spreading across his face once more.
"Cheers," Sophie replied, not blushing, apparently immune to his charm.
Our introductions continued as we crossed the pitches, occasionally stopping so I could rest and put my foot down. We talked about how long me and Sophie had played for the Manchester United Girls Football Academy and what Brooklyn had done before he started coaching.
Eventually, we reached the car park and my dad's was the only car left in there. He was standing outside leaning against the bonnet, waiting.
As soon as he saw us, he rushed over concerned. "Is she alright?"
Brooklyn was back into full physio mode, explaining my injury, and how I would need a trip to the doctors. After he had finished my dad shook his head at me, smiling. "Trust you to get injured the first-"
Sophie interrupted. "Exactly what I said." She and my dad both laughed.
My dad reached out to shake Brooklyn's hand. "Thank you for sorting her out..."
"Brooklyn," he shook my dad's hand. "I'm new here."
"Well, thank you, I'll get her into the car."
"It's fine, I've got her." I was helped to hobble over to the car by Brooklyn and he opened my car door and helped me lower myself in.
"Thank you," I smiled up at him.
"No problem, see you soon?" As he said this, I noticed a glint in his eye.
"As soon as I get off the crutches."
"I'll look forward to it, Charlotte."
