~Hazel Lynn~

"Do you think we will ever find our mates?" Alyssa groans on frustration as her long sleek black hair blows into her face. She pauses in front of the window where the training pack members were visible.

"Not until we are eighteen." My eyes wander to where she is standing. Her shoulders slump.

"Yeah. I know."

Eighteen. The magical number in my world. The number that determines who we are supposed to spend the rest of our lives with, both wolf and mate. Although, some of us do not find our mates are until later in life. Some may not even find a mate at all.  It is highly possible that ones mate may not even be in the same pack as yourself. Although, there are very few wolves within their packs who find their mates outside the pack.

Another perk that comes with being eighteen, shifting. From rumors and stories that I have heard, one will shift the night of clock strikes nine. Some wolves have mentioned that shifting was painful, while others have mentioned that it was swift and easy. So it must depend on person.

Some of us, dread the idea of finding a mate. Some of us means me.

"Hazel Lynn!" The Alpha's voice booms through the house, making both Alyssa and myself jump in fright.

The command the Alpha has that has every member of the pack to do his bidding, has no affect on me. No one knows that except for myself and Alyssa, since I tell her everything.

"Good luck." Alyssa whispers as I place the knife down and leave the kitchen.

Hazel Lynn Maddax is my name. Nightingale Pack is currently my home, even if I do not want it to be. I am a omega. The lowest of the low in the pack. Growing up, I have been given the story of my birth. Pretty much what anyone would think. My parents passed away when the pack was raided. They had no close relatives, so I was given the the Alpha. He placed me in the Omega's ward.

Omega's are basically a glorified maid. We do everything the higher ups do not want to do. On a regular basis, I am constantly cleaning the pack house because the Alpha's son likes to destroy it with his friends as the rampage though the rooms. If I remember correctly, the heir to this pack is a few months older than I am and has yet to find his mate.

"What can I do for you Alpha Adah?" I give him the pack salute, once I approach. My legs are shoulder width apart, my hands formed in fists by my side.

"Your chores, Hazel. I want them done now." His voice is filled with anger as he addresses me, which is nothing new. Something that I am completely used to.

What did I ever do to him to get his to dispose me so much?

"Yes, Alpha." I stay in my salute until he is out of my view. "What is up his ass?"

"What is up whose ass?" A deep familiar voice resonates behind me, making me jump out of my skin.

Once again, to show respect, I find myself standing in the salute form to the Alpha's only son, Felix. "Nothing, sir." My voice wavers a little.

Mental face palm.

Felix raises an eyebrow and gives at me funny look. "You know you can relax. I am not the alpha yet." A wave of relief flows through me.

For some reason, Felix has always shown me kindness. "So...would you perhaps like to share your thoughts?"

I shake my head. Over my dead body.

He gives me his award winning smile. "Alright then."

Felix slows down as he walks past me and whispers, "I know my father has a stick up his ass."
