Chapter Two: Pressed in a Corner
I woke in a small chamber. As soon as I woke up, I noticed that my bag was missing. I quickly looked around for it, and as soon as I turned my head to the left I fell over. The man from earlier was staring at me. Quite intently, actually. There was a taunting smirk on his face. "You're awake," he observed. I jumped up and backed away from him, pressing myself against a wall. "Where am I?! Who are you?!" He stood up. "You're in a jail cell. I'm the guy who brought you here," I fished around in my pockets for something to help my predicament, but found that they were empty. "Don't bother. I already emptied your pockets. Anyways, let's jump right into it. You asked your questions, let me ask mine." I noticed that my hood was down and abruptly pulled it over my hair. "No, take it off," he commanded. I didn't move. He pulled out his sword and twirled it. "Let me remind you who the armed one of us is. Now take off your hood and sit down," I quickly pulled down my hood and sat down where I was at, shaking in fright. The stranger came and sat next to me.
"Alright, let's get some basic info down. What's your name?" I didn't speak, I didn't move, I just hugged my knees and trembled, staring straight forward. The look on my face must have been a petrified one, because the man put an arm around my shoulders, trying to comfort me, but I pushed him away and scooched to the corner. He knew he did something wrong, and moved to the corner across from me, so that we were looking at each other. "Maybe not yet. Whatever, I was awkward on my first day here too. G'night." He leaned his head up against the wall, and seemed to almost instantly fall asleep. I stayed awake for a while, then suffered to droopy eyes and fell asleep.
I woke to a rustling noise beside me. The man sat down next to me, a plate of food in his hand. "Care to eat?" He moved it closer to my face, and I glared at it without moving my head, flinching away. I didn't answer. He didn't deserve me to speak to him, so I put up my hand to separate it from me. "You sure? We've got some great bakers here, I promise it isn't poisoned," he picked up a small piece of the food that was close to him and put it in his mouth. "See?" I glared at him. "If I eat this, you promise you'll leave me alone?" He nodded his head and I took a small roll off the plate, and took a small bite. "Why are you being so nice to your prisoner anyways? Aren't you supposed to threaten my life and give me a date when you'll kill me and stuff?" I looked at him with no emotion in my eyes. That's what happen to thieves. It was bound to happen eventually. "Umm, no," he turned to look at me, "Phoenix Drop is different than other cities. Our lord thought you would be worth keeping anyways. I trust her judgement, I wasn't exactly for you living." I continued to nibble at the bread. "But I was one for putting a potion of honesty in that bread," I threw the rest of the roll across the room, it hit the wall and fell to the ground. I hugged my knees and hid my chin. "I knew it tasted funny," he smirked and set the plate down. "Now you can tell me the truth about you," he stood up and stretched. I snorted and smirked at him.
"What?"
"It's funny, you think that just because you give me a potion of honesty I'll talk."
He drew his sword. "You'll talk when your life is being threatened."
"You also think I'll talk when I'm dead. Put your sword on the other side of this cell, and maybe I'll talk."
He stayed silent then sighed, then said annoyingly, "Fine." He took a keychain off his belt, unlocked the door, and set his sword outside the door. He locked it again. I smiled and stood up, walking over to one of the two stools in the cell. The man sat down next to me. "I also need to know what to refer to you as," I blinked at him. "It's Laurance. You?"
"Not yet."
"Seriously?"
We argued for what felt like hours, until he stood and moved to the door, putting his hand angrily on the wall, "Y'know, it's people like you-" he caught his breath, his tone had grown dark, and his body had begun to take a menacing pose, I even noticed a definet change in the color of his clothing. "-It's people like you that make me like this. That make me, " he gasped again, "Mad." I blinked at his sudden, and dramatic, change in character.
But, as soon as he changed, he changed back to the annoying voice and bright colors that hurt my eyes. "Heh, so, would you kindly tell me what your name is?" Laurance looked at me from the door and I looked back. I'm gonna be the jerk who pushes him further. "Didn't you hear me? I said I wasn't ready to tell you my name yet. If I don't wan-." Laurence's appearance shifted, his eyes grew a blood red and his clothes changed colors, specifically red and black. A large red sword appeared in his hand, he charged at me and pushed me into the corner of the cell, his blade on my throat.
The only thing that stopped him was when I put my hands up, my right on the handle, on top of his, and my less fortunate left hand pushed against the sharp end of the blade. "Alright! Alright! My name is (Y/N)!" He pulled back and looked at his hands, dropping his sword. He deformed quickly and I curled up on the ground in the corner, my left hand stinging and bleeding, I hugged my knees to my body and stared at him, pupils shrunk, my face in a state of fright. "Wh-what are you?" I stuttered. He looked deeply ashamed and scared. His gaze hadn't moved from his palms, but he attempted to look up at me. He realized that I was frightened and moved closer to me, putting out his to reach out to me like some dramatic play, but it wasn't a play. This was real life, and I just witnessed an indescribable event.
How do you like it? Is it good? I hope so. Anyways, sorry this took so long. I'm that one person who runs out of data ten days into their cycle and is too afraid to update on a computer because I have stalkers for parents. So, I got smart and started writing it in my memo. That's why it takes sooo long. Hope you liked it though!
Don't be a loner and tell me what you think~ ♡
Much love,
Crystal ♡
