Chapter Four: Such a Past
G/t)=Gem Type (for swords)
Also, this chapter has a choice for the reader- there will be a note desribing each part and then it... choose with caution, it might *cough, probably not, cough* affect the rest of the story.
I ran to the crowd and jumped in front of Laurance without hesitation. Actually, I did it without thinking either. Weilding my (g/t) sword and striking every monster that came near him. He was bleeding from a cut on his arm and forehead, and I was worried for him. He had lost his sword, and I was his only defense currently.
You know those stories about the prince who saves the princess? I'd like to think of our situation as backwards of that. A criminal female is saving a male gaurd. The shadows didn't care who they were attacking though, and continued to attack us. When one perished, another took its place. Every time one attacked me, I felt as if I had lost something. I hadn't ate in days, and my energy was low. But I kept fighting.
Eventually, the fatigue took over and I fell backwards. I wasn't knocked out, but I wasn't alright either. It had been a week since I had been taken to those village and held prisoner, and the only food that I had gotten was the day after I showed up. Four days ago, so it was no wonder I had collapsed. I tried to get back up, but a foot kept me down.
Laurance had taken my sword and was chopping at the monsters, they were only two left of the group that had attacked us. I desperately tried to get back up, but to no appeal was I allowed. Laurance had almost finished off the last monster and probably thought I would run if he let me up. So I dropped my head back to the floor and looked at some rooftops.
As I gazed at them, I noticed a figure moving along the top of one of them. Koi. Somehow, Koi had made her way to the island and had been watching us fight the entire time. I growled at her and she saw that I was looking at her. Quickly, she turned to leave, and ran to the other side of the roof before vanising.
Laurance had finally defeated the last monster. He crouched down and panted, his face sweaty, he threw my sword to the side.
He remembered that I was laying on the ground and stood up, holding out his hand for me to take. He helped me up and we stood, staring at each other, eye-to-eye. Neither of us moved as people hustled around the settlement. It also started to rain lightly.
The people started to disperce, I saw the people from the Koi situation in my perefeal vision, but nobody seemed to be moving to get out of the rain. Suddenly, Laurance hugged me. He dug his head into my neck and hugged me. I stiffened. It was a stiff hug. My eyes were wide and because of the way he hugged me, arms wrapped around my own so they were stuck to my side, I couldn't hug back. I wouldn't have, either.
Eyes wide and face scrunched up an confused, I continued to stare forward. The white haired man seemed to be the only one who saw. He gave me two thumbs up, which, I guess, became thumbs that resembled people. He started mashing the tips together in a romantic way, then pointed to me, Laurance, and rejoined his hands together again to make a heart. I scowled at him and stuck my tongue out. No way! As if!
I was done with this hug, especially if this white haired guy was going to pair us together. I mean, I didn't really have time for this stuff anyways.
So I pushed apart Laurances arms and turned to walk away giving him a small nod of, well... I don't know what, but it meant something. I guess.
Any who, when I walked away I walked up to the forest and sat under a tree, staring at the people in the clearing below. The white haired guy had walks up to Laurance and was, I assumed, talking to him about his relationship with me. I didn't mind though, I couldn't justify it and had no reason to. So I sat. And waited, thinking.
