Chapter 1: Going to Alabama
“Lexie Rose Conner, get your butt up right now. We have a bus to catch in an hour” my mom yelled upstairs.
I groaned and reluctantly climbed out of bed. I didn’t want to see what would happen if I go back to sleep. I quickly took a look around my room at all the suitcases and sighed. I threw on a pair of black short shorts and my white jersey with the number 56 on it. I pulled my light brown hair into a pony tail while running down the stairs and into the kitchen. In the kitchen sat my mom, Rebecca, My dad Brett, and my little twin brothers, nick and Tyler. “Tyler and Nicholas stop shoving each other” my mom yelled as my brothers were in their daily shoving match. I cracked a half smile and sat in a chair sighing as I took one last look around. My dad nudged me
“Cheer up kiddo. You’ll love Langston” he said smiling widely. I guess I should explain right? Well in two hours I’ll be sitting on a bus from New York to Langston, Alabama. Which has a population of 250 people. That’s less than the amount of kids at my school! Langston’s where my dad grew up and it’s where my grandparents live. I’ve been there once when I was like 5. I sighed and nodded. I went upstairs to grab my bags and brought them down to the car. I went up to grab my last bag and sighed looking at the now empty room. I’ve lived in this house since I was 3 and now that I’m 16 ,that looks like a really distant memory.
“LEXIE! HURRY UP!” my mother yelled. I groaned, that’s all my mom really does. She says it’s because she’s stressed which adds to the reason she wants to go to Langston since it’s a small town.
About six and a half hours later I was stepping off a bus on to an abandoned looking dirt road. I immediately wanted to get back on the bus and demand the bus driver take me back to New York but the wide smiles on my parent’s face forbid me from doing so. I sighed and frowned once the bus drove off. I looked over at Nick and Tyler who were running around playing tag. Lucky five year olds I thought to myself. They weren’t leaving behind a bunch of friends and basically everything they knew. “Well come on guys” my dad said. “Um dad, Hate to burst your bubble but we’re in the middle of know where” I said accidently. He laughed lightly and pointed to a sign that read Langston, Alabama 3 miles. I frowned and said “well where’s the taxi?” my dad smiled at me “we’re walking their” So thus started the adventure of walking down the side of the road for 3 miles. In this time I got to admire my family’s looks. That didn’t look that old. In fact, the exact opposite, my mom is only 33. She had dark blonde hair that stopped a little past her shoulders and she was a good height at 5’8. Her eyes were a light green and she stayed in shape by taking care of my little brothers. My dad on the other hand had messy short brown hair and was pretty tall at 6’2. He had baby blue eyes which my mom said was the first thing she noticed about him and he had some muscles. We always called him the handy man. He was only 35. My little brother’s looks a lot like my dad and the only difference between the twins were their eye colors. Nick had baby blue eyes while Tyler had Hazel eyes.
We started to see a town which had Nick jumping up and down with excitement. “Look, Look” he yelled at us. Quick enough we were in the town. I looked around and saw people had stopped to watch us. Great I thought to myself new girl must be written on my forehead. But anyway we continued to follow my dad til’ we stumbled on a pretty white two story house with gates around it and lots of land in the back. “It’s so beautiful” my mom cooed. I nodded in agreement and walked up to the house. The inside was prettier than I imagined, it was old and royal looking which made me smile. My room was perfect too. I had a queen size bed with light purple and white walls. My desk sat on side of the wall with my laptop and on the other side sat a vanity. I walked over to it and ran my hand across it. I had always wanted one but had never found one. But this, this one was better than I had imagined. It fit perfectly in with my room.
“That used to be mine when I was your age” my grandma said while walking into my room. “It’s beautiful” I said breathlessly. She smiled a sweet smile and nodded “I’m glad you like it” I nodded and smiled back but asked “why’d you give it to me?” She said “I wanted you to have it because I’m getting old I don’t use it much anymore and it’s in beautiful condition. So I figured someone should get use out of it” She said with her accent. I smiled and hugged her “well thank you” She nodded “your mom wanted you to go to into town and look around. Maybe take your brother’s with you” I nodded knowing what she meant. The grownups are talking and you shouldn’t be here. I walked down stairs and saw Nick and Tyler.
“Hey guys wanna come with me to look around?” They both nodded and jumped up. Tyler took hold of my left hand while Nick took hold of my right. “Come on!”Nick said enthusiastically. So I was basically dragged out of my house by two five year olds. Great I thought. I looked around saw simple trees and dirt roads with some houses that looked slightly old. It took about two or so minutes to make it to the center of the town. I looked around and yet again people were watching us but I decided to ignore it. The staring will go away eventually right. “Look Lexie that’s where you’re going to school” Tyler said smiling at me. “Yes that’s the place” I nodded while looking at the school. On a sign in front of the two doors read “Langston High School home of the bears” I thought back to my old school. I used to go to a private school in New York. No it wasn’t an all girls private school it was for boys and girls, but now I’m going to a public school. It’s not that different right? Just the facts there are no uniforms at this school. Well anyway continuing on into the town I realized something. There are no stores that I’ve heard of! Just a small dinner that read “Rob’s dinner” Well at least there’s somewhere to eat. I thought. Another thing was a small store that read mini mart. There were a few other stores here and there which I couldn’t help but admire. The stores weren’t packed and there weren’t people crowded everywhere. Maybe I would like it here I thought. After about a twenty minute walk which included seeing trees, the center of the town, and avoiding a group of teenagers successfully I was home. I went up to my room and got ready for bed because guess what? I have school tomorrow.
