Chapter 2: Friends?

The last bell of the day rings, signalling the end of the last class for the day. Students immediately gather their books and bags before rushing out of the classroom. While they were rushing out the classroom and feeling excited to go back home, three girls were still sitting at the back of the classroom.

"I can't believe I'm going to detention. This is so not me." Elyse complained while Veronika and Reina looked at her pitifully.

"Come on, it's not that bad. All you have to do is sit there quietly while doing your own work." Reina told her, attempting to cheer her up. Elyse looked at Reina and let out a sigh.

"You're right. It's not like I'm going to die or anything." She says unmotivatedly. "Let's go then."

The three girls grabbed their bags and walks out the class. They walked silently and climbed up a couple of staircase while most students are heading downstairs. The detention room is located on the fourth floor of the school which is also the highest level of the school. It was said the reason the room was located on the highest level is to prevent students from escaping detention through the window, which is in fact not true. Instead, they just did that to torture the students into climbing a long-ass staircase which made Elyse, if you haven't noticed yet- pissed off.

"Why are you so against going to detention anyways Elyse?" Veronika asked her out of nowhere, breaking the silence surrounding them. Elyse looked at Veronika weirdly.

"Are you serious?" Elyse looks at Veronika, wondering if she was joking.

"Yeah. You keep on whining and complaining about how much you hate going to detention so I'm really curious." Veronika answered seriously.

"Well," Elyse began. Veronika and Reina stared at her curiously, yearning to know what 'secret' she's about to reveal. Elyse bit her lip. Struggling to find the right words.

"Are you serious Elyse." Reina says impatiently. "Are you really going to keep biting your lips until we drop this conversation? Because if that's the case I can do this all day."

Elyse lets out a defeated sigh, "Fine." She looked around a few times, making sure no one was there to listen to their conversation.

She took a deep breath. "Iactuallyvolunteeredatthepetshelter." She says quickly.

"What." Reina says confusedly.

"I said I volunteered atthepetshelter." She says a little slower this time.

Veronika and Reina raised an eyebrow at her answer. Veronika and Reina looked at each other, a bit speechless at the answer before bursting out in laughter.

"Shut up!" Elyse half-yelled at the both of them. Her face slowly turning red due to embarrassment. The outburst from Elyse made them laugh louder than before. Embarrassed and annoyed, Elyse turned around from her friends and started to walk towards the detention room.

"Oh my god. Are you serious? Are you sulking Elyse?" Reina ask as Elyse walks away. Tears of laughter were forming at Reina's eyes.

"The mighty Elyse, volunteering at the pet shelter. What a sight." Veronika teased.

Elyse ignored the both of them and started to walk faster. "Oh come on. Wait for us will ya?" Reina shouted as the both of them dashed towards her.

A few hours have passed by after the 'incident' between Kai and the principal and after they decided to skip school and spend the remaining hours at a sushi restaurant instead. The once bright blue sky has now turned into a warm yellowish evening sky.
