I tried running to Zoe's room, but bumped my head on the wall. Sometimes I really hate this house for its maze-like complexity, but at the same time I love it, because it is a maze, which means, he's going to get lost. I  took a right, then a left, then another right. Finally I saw Zoë's room. I quietly opened it and closed the door behind me. She was still asleep, Her light brown hair was sprayed over the pillow, and her face was pale, and peaceful.

"Zoe?" I shook her awake.

"hmm" she groaned and tried to push my hand away.

"Shhh, don't make noise, he'll hear you." i whispered into her ear.

That shook her wide awake."What do you mean? Who's here?" she asked, worried now, her thick, brown eyebrows furrowed deeper.

"I'll tell you later, come on. I need to hide you." she obediently followed.

"Do you remember that little room you found in the closet?"

"Yeah, you want me to hide there?"

"Yes, hurry! he could be coming any second." I urged her.

It was a tight fit, I couldn't fit in there like i used to, but i made it and that was the important thing. before I went into the little room, I unlocked the bedroom door, closed the closet door and closed up the small room. that way when he comes in, he'll think we're not here and he'll look around, but he won't know. The room wasn't any bigger than a small closet. It was like a large-ish cabinet. Zoe and me had to squeeze together, so we could fit. In the end, her long legs ended up next to my head, and I hugged my legs so, she could have more room.

"He's coming! Don't make a peep." I whispered.

Thump!

Screech!

Thump!

Screech!

His footsteps pounded the ground. I always thought something like this wasn't really scary in scary movies, but when It's actually happening it's terrifying.

Click! He opened the door, I think he's looking around for us.

"Come out, come out, wherever you are!" he giggled like a maniac. My heart kept pounding, louder and louder until its noise filled my ears. I closed my eyes tightly and curled into an even smaller ball. I could hear some heavy breathing, except it was right next to me. I opened an eye and saw Zoe hyperventilating.

"Zoe!" I whispered as loud as I dared. her dark eyes looked at me for less than a second and kept looking elsewhere, her eyes never staying in one spot.

I grabbed her chin and turned it my way. I pointed at her and made a going down gesture. what I meant for her to understand was that she should calm down, I think she understood because she started breathing more normal, she still made a little bit of noise, but it quickly faded.

Thump!

Screech!

Thump!

Screech!

His footsteps got closer and closer until he was standing right in front of the closet. I looked at Zoe quickly and put my finger against my lips, she nodded. He opened the closet door slowly, as if to mock us. "Found you!" His  voice rumbled.

I kept tensing up, waiting for him to find the small room and jump at us, but he never did. He searched through all of Zoe's clothes and under the bed and each time he repeated the same line, but never found us. I really hope he doesn't find Lily, I think she knows He's here. I think she's hiding, but I'm not sure and if she Isn't, It's more of a reason to find her. His footsteps slowly faded out of the room and headed towards the kitchen, which was on the other side of the house. Yes!

"Zoe," I whispered quietly, as she jumped at the sound of my voice. "I'm going to look for Lily. I need you to stay here and not make a peep, okay?" I asked her.

She shook her head, and pleaded. "No! Don't leave me, I don't want to stay alone! Take me with you, please! take me with you!" she desperately clung to me and started crying silently.

she clung onto me like iron claws and I could barely breathe, but I wanted to stay here with her. Like this. Where It was somewhat safe, where I would't have to hide, but as a few hot tears rolled down my cheeks, I put up the bravest front I could, and told her: "I can't Zoe, If you come with me, you'll make more noise and He'll find us. I need you to stay here so I know you're safe, Do you still have the emergency phone?" I just remembered, Mom made us keep an extra phone somewhere in the house. We call it the emergency phone, In case anything ever happens and we can't get to the house phone.

"Yeah! It's in my dresser, In my underwear drawer." I turned to look and her and almost spluttered a laugh, but stopped my self in time. All of this fear must be getting to my head.

"Okay, I'll go get it."
