Vanessa POV:
I gazed about the Drum Majors, I felt out of place among the marchers from the previous season. A tall strawberry blonde girl approached me and introduced herself; "Hi there freshmen! My name is Sarah, I am your section leader this year!" Sarah was full of energy and it scared me at first - but at the same time I felt welcomed.
I followed Sarah for she left me no choice, she had linked her arm in mine and led me toward the cafeteria. Many people rushed passed us, they were carrying brass instruments; "Im so excited! First Band camp of this year!" one of them yelled. Sarah smiled at that - 'Are people always this crazy?!' I couldn't help but chuckle.
To my disappointment there were rows upon rows of tables that occupied the big cafeteria; Jennifer stood upon one of the tables as we entered. "The cafeteria always has tables down, we need to put the tables up to set up a Concert Arc." As if by instinct, all of the vets set their stuff down and began to put up tables. They all looked happy as they did this, none of them were afraid of hard work. Even small people were helping.
I looked to Sarah for comfort and she simply smiled and I followed her to the nearest table. One, two, three she mouthed. The table was heavy and we pushed it together and heard the click that was satifactory. Sweat began to form on my forehead - 'Is this what marching band was all about?'
When we finally put up enough tables to please our staff, members from last year began to explain to us a Concert Arc. "When each section basically makes a horse shoe around a focal or center point. Its very efficient and yet professional." It is important that the band plays as a whole.
"Okay, great job on setting up the tables. You freshmen are quick learners. Next step in the concert arc is making sure you have equal spacing. Everything has to be geometrically correct." Jennifer had addressed us from the middle of the arc and Rachel picked up where Jennifer left off. "When standing in the arc waiting for the arc to be set you must have your water jug, case, bag, anything essential that you need."
