Haruka Nanase
The prince and heir to the throne of a (yet unnamed) kingdom. Betrothed to Kou Matsuoka, but in love with Makoto Tachibana. Cold, closed off and spoilt. Effectively the main character of the story.
Makoto Tachibana
A reformed country boy, Haruka's servant and only friend. Came to work in the city to support his family and was entrusted by the queen with her son. May or may not be secretly returning Haruka's feelings.
Rin Matsuoka
High-ranked soldier in the King's extensive army. He is the reason Kou was betrothed to Haruka. Ruthless, competitive and all around obnoxious bastard, but does have a sensitive streak.
Kou Matsuoka
Rin's sister and Haruka's fiancée. Only a year younger than Haruka, she currently lives on palace grounds due to family issues. Unlike Haruka, she is very much happy with her engagement into royal affairs.
Nagisa Hazuki
The outer city's resident "common criminal". Cheeky and flirtatious, he seems to have been following Rei around for a while now. His motives for his actions are currently unknown.
Rei Ryugazaki
Nagisa's current love interest. For reasons currently unknown, he is extremely skilled in combat, which has raised questions about his origins. Works as a merchant in the upper market, but shows little interest in his job.
*Aiichirou Nitori
Rin's pageboy/servant. Very shy and reserved, he tends to keep himself to himself. Admires Rin with a passion, but would never find the courage to say it.
*Momotarou Mikoshiba
The general's younger brother, he is among the lowest ranked soldiers in the army. He doesn't seem to possess any particular skill - he joined in attempt to impress Kou, whom has stolen his heart. Tends to use Rin as a means to get close to her.
*Seijirou Mikoshiba
The general of the entire army and personal advisor to the King, Mikoshiba worked his way up through the ranks from a common "peasant". Despite his brother being rather a disappointment, he is very proud of him and tends to issue petty competitions between them.
*Sousuke Yamazaki

*Chigusa Hanamura
Kou's childhood best friend, a low-ranked Noble's daughter. She took the job as her lady in waiting as a means of looking after her as her only current friend.
*Kisumi Shigino
Makoto's childhood friend.

Haruka's private tutor.
