"Break a leg!" my mom said in a soft voice.
As the play was starting I could hear the music playing. I thought about what I was going to do over and over again until I knew that it was my part. I felt butterflies in my stomach that I had never felt before.
"You're going to do great!" my cast member said to me in a quiet enthusiastic voice.
I knew that when I got the main part there would be a lot of people counting on me to do a good job. I was ready to go on stage. In the background as I was walking on to stage I saw someone in the crowd. He looked familiar. It was my dad. He was clapping as the previous scene had ended. I became even more nervous. I didn't just have butterflies in my stomach, it felt like I had spiders in my stomach biting me until I couldn't breathe anymore. I had to go on stage. I had to show the world who I was.
A roar of clapping started as I walked onto stage. The spotlight was nearly blinding, but I kept walking. I could see all the people slowly clapping as I walked on stage. They were trying to see who I was as I walked out into the spotlight. As I said my line I felt a drop of water falling down my cheek and dripping down my neck. The stage felt like it was a hundred degrees, which it probably was. Then I said my line and it burst out of my mouth like a nuclear bomb.
The sweat stopped rolling down my face as I stepped out of the spotlight and someone else stepped in. It felt like the weight of the world had just been lifted of my shoulders. But as I caught another glimpse of my dad it felt like it was put back on. As I finished my lines I knew that the scene was over and the play was over. As I walked off the stage I saw my dad get up and walk away from his chair.
There was so much commotion backstage.
"That's A Wrap!" the director said.
"Great Job!" the director said to me and my castmates.
All my nervousness was gone. Then I realized I was too calm. After all I was on Broadway.

The play was finally over. I could finally breath calmly for the first time in ten hours. I was about to leave when my mom came up to me and hugged me.
    "You were marvelous!" she said.
"Thanks, Mom!" I said in response.
"Your dad wanted to say that to you, too"
    "Where is he?"
"Um.... I don't know, he left about thirty minutes ago. He just told me to tell you that you did a great job. I guess he didn't want to get trampled by people when he left the theater."
"Well.... at least I got to see him. I haven't seen him in months. He was so caught up in making his movie he didn't have the chance to write us a letter or send us anything telling us that he missed us."
"That's just the way your father is."
"Mom I have to go... to the, you know, cast party"
"Oh yeah! By sweetie. Don't get too caught up in the fact that your father didn't get to talk to you tonight."
    "I won't mom."
"Alright."
"I have to go mom."
"Okay. By the way sweetie you looked famished. Go get something to eat, you're probably starving."
    "Okay, mom, bye!"
    "Bye sweetie!"
As I was making my way to the cast party I heard say my name. It got louder as I was walking forward.
    "Maria!" someone shouted.
"Yah?!" I said in a confused response.
    "Maria!"
    "What?! Who's saying that?!"
Then I saw him in the distance. I looked at him in the eye. I started walking faster and faster until I was almost sprinting toward him.
"Maria is that you?" he said in an excited voice.
    "Yeah! Is that you dad?"
    "Yeah, It's me."
    ⋯
My dad ran up to me and gave me a hug. I was so happy to see him.
"Sorry I left so early I had to get out before I was trampled by the crowd and bombarded by the paparazzi." he said.
"Well..at least you came back, because I'm so happy to see you." I said excitedly.
"I am happy to see you, too. By the way you were great, I feel like you're going to fill my shoes and then become a shoe size bigger than."
"Dad... you are beyond better than me."
    "No, I doubt it."
"Dad I will never be able to fill your shoes."
"Yes you will. I am sure of it."
"But you have a legacy. You have been in tons of movies. You're the great Leonardo Dicaprio."
"You will also be in many movies as soon as you audition for them. Even though I may have a legacy I have never won an oscar and winning oscar shows that you are actually a great actor."
"Well thanks dad I have to go to the cast party now."
    "Ok. I'll see you later."
    "Bye."
    "Bye."
As I left I could hear my dad walking the opposite way. I heard him walk through the door and heard people screaming his name. I still had to get my stuff from backstage. I had realized then that I had a legacy to fulfill.

I got to the cast party and everyone was congratulating me on a job well done. I congratulated and complemented them back, but they responded by saying that I was the best in the play. It was my second time on Broadway but I still I wasn't good enough.
Seeing my dad made me realize that I should follow in his legacy. Although he has never won an Oscar, I will try too. I will try to win an Oscar for my dad. I will try to win the Oscar that my dad never won.
I first had to audition for a movie. Auditioning for a movie was the first step to getting an Oscar. I wanted for my dad to be proud of me for doing something that he attempted to achieve but never did.
The cast party was loud. Very Loud. I was just glad the play was finally over. My hours of practicing was over. The play was done. I had lots of time on my hands. I had the time to accomplish something that I wanted to have. I wanted something that would make my dad proud of me. Now I just had to win and Oscar.
