      The doctor held the young girl’s cold hands in his, rubbing her palm with his thumbs as a tear slid down his cheek, tickling his white whiskers. The line went flat as she took in her last breath, losing the hold on life and falling down into the dark, deep abyss of emptiness and darkness. He lifted his head in a drunken way, covered in tears, and nodded to the nurse whose face was as pale as a ghost being frightened by the translucent souls wandering around them, as if people are ghosts.

      The nurse rushed out to the hallways, whispering I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, only to find that no one, no one, was outside. No one came to see the little girl take her last breath. No one.

      Sweat dripped down red cheeks as I sat brutally up, panting and heaving as I felt the tears crystalize on my eyes. My body dropped against the cold pillow as I stared out the window, seeing the darkness waver above the world like a blanket.

      The clock blared a red color of anger and hatred; the repeated number winked at me as I whispered to only the colors merging seamlessly in my eyes, “I wish that dream came true...”
