"He's going with who?" Marinette said sitting at her desk, already in a frenzy with the newfound information from Alya.
"Shea, and as friends. You know, the timid one with the soft brown hair and eyes that sits in the back of class and draws?"
"I know her, she's a lovely person. But I didn't even think Adrien knew her name."
Alya shrugged. "Apparently he found out."
Marinette sighed. "I just wish he could've gone alone, that would make this the least painful for me."
"I know Marinette, but this could be a good thing. I'm sure everything will work out, just like it always does."
"I'm not even sad. I guess I just always dreamed of him fighting for me."
"I know girl, and now you seriously need a distraction. It's Wednesday and the dance is on Saturday; we need to pick out our dresses. I'm taking you shopping."
"That sounds fun. I want to up-cycle my dress; I can do yours too."
"That sounds fantastic! That way we definitely won't show up wearing the same thing as someone else."
Marinette caught a glimpse of Shea, looking panicked as Chloë and Sabrina held up a sketchbook.
"Come on Alya, let's go help her."
Alya met Marinette's eyes and nodded. The pair then walked over to Shea.
Marinette snatched the sketchbook out of Chloë's hands. "Excuse me, I don't think this belongs to you."
Chloë glared at her, and then smiled sweetly. "I'm surprised you're taking her defense. Or have you not heard about her and Adrien?"
"I heard, and I have the decency to be happy for her. It's just a middle school crush Chloë, geez."
Chloë's mouth formed a thin line before she turned to Shea. "Watch your back. Adrien will be mine."
She turned on her heel and Sabrina clumsily followed.
Marinette turned to Shea and offered her sketchbook back. "Sorry, she can get pretty out of hand."
Shea smiled, and took it back eagerly. "Thanks, and believe me I know. I should've expected this."
"When you said yes to Adrien?" Alya asked.
Shea nodded. "Even though we're going as friends, everyone is still freaking out. People I've never even seen before are suddenly in my business. I've been trying to get a free moment just to sketch the anxiety out of my system."
Marinette smiled and nodded. "You know how kids can be. Our class is such a gossip."
Shea nodded. "True."
Marinette smiled suddenly. "Hey, Shea, would you want to go dress shopping with me and Alya after school? I can even up cycle your dress like I am with ours."
Shea's chocolatey eyes lit up. "That sounds great. Thanks Marinette!"
Marinette smiled. "Anytime Shea."
Marinette then retreated back to her desk with Alya at her heel.
"Is this some way to get Adrien to like you? Because I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to be going out for coffee with your crush's date to the dance."
Marinette laughed. "Nope, no tricks. I think she's really cool, and I finally think I might be getting over Adrien."
In that moment he chose to enter the classroom, running a hand through his messy blonde hair. His emerald eyes met hers and a timid half smile took over his features. He then sat down, and left Marinette staring dreamily at the back of his head.
