Promises

She has stopped
Believing in promises
Because one by one
They were broken
But she makes promises
And she keeps them
true to her word
Because she remembers
All the broken promises
Back when she asked
Her dad
You promise you and mum
Will stay together
He promises
He stopped strying
They're getting a divorce soon
Back when she asked
Her friend
If they would last forever
The friend promised
They got into a fight
The friend lied
And the final straw
Was she asked
If everything was
going to be OK
They all promised
They lied
So she stopped
Counting on promises
She starts to make sure
She kept her own promises
And she did
She never broke one
Broken promises do not
Make whole ones
Do not break the promises
Because you are breaking
The people
