Grief

I am drowning in a sea of what would have been.

Pulled in by the undertow of what can never be.

In desperation I reach out for you to save me, but

You are gone, and I sink deeper.

I kick and fight my way to the top, exhausted.

I gasp in one breath, wipe away the tears and catch a fleeting glimpse of the moon.

The clouds dissipate, I catch my breath, close my eyes and sigh.

I barely open my eyes before the waves come crashing down again, and

The moonlight fades away.

I keep fighting, but

I am losing hope.
