Chapter :3-invitation

Today is Friday and its the first weekend after the school opened and life is pretty much going back to normal, well as normal as it can get with Michael here. Yeah, it wasn't a bad dream, I know. Zach hasn't talked to me again but he smiles and nods his head at me in acknowledging my presence in the corridors, english literature class and cafeteria. On the first day, when the bell rang signaling that lunch was over we got up, walked inside, and parted ways to go to our different classes. But not before him saying "thanks for today." and me replying," no... No problem ... Bye!" So he knew that i saw him, in the cafeteria after Michael's entrance. Why was he not talking to me then? Why was he smiling at me then? Ugh i don't understand guys sometimes i had thought a million times over the last few days.
"Hope, its green, the traffic light. Go!" Anna's voice brought me back to the present. I was in the car driving us to school. I slammed my foot on the accelerator and continued to drive muttering"sorry " under my breath.

I saw Anna and Sky exchange a worried glance then Sky nodded and said,"Hope, you now you can tell us anything right? We have been noticing that you have been awfully quiet  this whole week. What's the matter?"

I quickly searched for the 23rd excuse this week and said " It's nothing, i just have a headache, i ate some painkillers it should be alright soon." I gave her a reassuring smile.
Thankfully, they let it drop though i had no doubt that they saw right through my lie. They knew i would speak when i was ready. I parked in the school parking lot and we got out, going to our lockers and i said "i'm gonna do my pink highlights tomorrow, might as well get it over with. Anna you wanna join me? Your resolution too is to do something with your hair, right?"
" I already said i'm not doing it because i love and am proud of my jet black hair and i am never going to change its colour... Yeah okay i'm in. " she winced as she said the last part.  It was mandatory to do the resolutions if it was in your power, even Anna knew that. There was no point in arguing.
We said bye and went to our classes. Today surprisingly Zach was there before me. I went to my seat and then he turned around facing me and said " What's up, Hope! Are you busy tonight?"
And all i could do was stare at him, flustered,the butterflies coming out of their cocoons in my stomach and blink my eye then after 5 awkward seconds say "what?" then realise the situation and try to speak again to make it okay but i did the opposite by saying "oh your asking me if i am free tonight because you want to know... Why, may i ask?"

"Hahaha! Your so funny Hope, I have a party at my house my brother is hosting and I am inviting you to the party, duh, don't you have any social life! Anyways i was saying, so we could u know ... Talk, plus i don't want to be alone there...you get it? "
Just in the right time Mr. Brown entered the class telling us to get settled down. The whole hour, for the first time I did not hear a thing Mr. Brown said. All I could think was about Zach and his party and the possibilities. Once he asked me a question I didn't hear and them was trying to het the question he had asked from the board, which was not helping at all considering it was blank. Then Zach turned around and whispered the question and answer just loud enough for me to hear. And I said what he had said and sat down. The answer was right but Mr. Brown gave me a look but didn't say anything because I was his star student.(which is weird.)
When the class ended I was leaving walking fast but Zach caught up to me and held my hand to stop me in the corridor. The touch immediately made me stop, I turned around and looked at our hands and thought they fit perfectly like they are made to be held by each other . His hand is so warm and cozy that it's making me fuzzy inside . Snap out of it, Hope he is expecting you to say something.
"What?" i said politely still looking at are linked hands. He noticed that i was looking and immediately let go of my hand. ugh why did he do that!
"I wanted to ask you weather you would be coming tonight at 9:00. You see, our parents will not be there, mine and Michael's, I mean. But there are going to be people and beer." Zach said with a playful grin on his face and worried eyes.
Unable to look at his worried emerald green eyes and wanting to replace the worry with happiness, I said " Yeah sure, but only if my friends are gonna be there with me, you don't mind do you?"
Relief clearly showed in his eyes as he said,"Not at all, I was going to invite them too, you know."he muttered something i couldn't hear but was something like "Give..credit."under his breath.
We were getting late for our classes so we said "bye " to each other and I went to economics which I had with Sky and Anna both. I don't know if I'm lucky or unlucky. I sighed. Once I entered class I joined my friends at the back and told them what had happened today and on the first day except for the lonely tear part which i thought was not for me to tell. They gasped and laughed when they were supposed to but never interrupted me which I was grateful to them for. They could not say anything to me though as when I finished, Mrs. Holder walked in briskly and started the lesson.
Once class ended and Mrs. Holder walked off briskly, Sky immediately said "Oh my god, we have to go to the party tonight! " and Anna immediately shook her head giving excuses of home work but Sky gave her a glare I would rather die than see and said,"Anna your going and that is an order because it's your resolution and also because we all know that you can finish your homework on Friday as  there is not much because you always finish your homework the day you get it."Anna  shut her mouth that was hanging open and we all went our  ways to classes.

When the bell rang and school got over for the day, I went to the parking lot and waited for my friends to arrive. I had put on loud music because it made it hard to think and I couldn't concentrate on my thought about Zach and tonight. Don't forget the possibilities. I was looking out the window when suddenly my eyes bulged out and I gasped and shut the music. Sky, I saw Sky with Michael. I had a surge of mixed feelings as I watched her flirt with him and him flirting back.
First, i felt good that finally she's interested in someone and he likes her back. They had obvious chemistry. Second, I felt that he was not good for her, he would use her and then break her heart, he is a bad boy after all. Third, I didn't know him so I shouldn't judge besides Sky was as old as me and she knew what she was doing and I wasn't her mother. Fourth, I wonder if Michael realises how his presence is affecting  Zach's life socially. What if he is doing it on purpose?
Sky sat down next to me on the passenger seat and closed her door. I didn't realise she had come here until now. "Ohhh, so the lucky guy is Michael huh? I am happy for you." I said to her trying to make my expression and voice happy.
She blushed and replied "Thanks," she looked into my eyes and I think she saw worry in them so she added " He is a great guy, I know his cover and reputation don't suggest that but he really is."i smiled a t her, hoping she was right.
