"Jamie how's it been?!"
"Oh Karli! Late again as I presume"
He put down his phone for a moment to give her a handshake while he smoothly put it in his thin pocket. Its top could still be seen.
"Well yeah I stay up a bit too late every other day"
"Why's that? Work?"
Karli giggled a little.
"What? Everyone has to put a lot of effort on the side in their homes."
"Well that's you Jamie not me."
Jamie grew a small frown. He would've won employee of the month if only he got a few more sales. He stays up late most of his days trying to figure out how to convince all his customers to buy their desperate stocks.
"Alright, what do you do then?"
She stared at the ground for a moment and smiled.
"I'd like to get to the rooftop of my building and gaze at the stars. Just to look at them and their bright lights and trying to imagine how it is to see them up close. Just to imagine another world from this place while trying to find the constellations."
Jamie listened intuitively until the elevator door opened up and as usual came...
"Another late day Karl..." He signed
"What the hell do you do after work I'll never know but it surely doesn't help you get on time does it."
It was Mr. Amaeul. Her boss. A nice guy in all but as all CEOs can be a total pain in the ass, but for the right reasons.
"Sorry boss I..."
"No excuses Karli please, you've even got me to tell you this calmly."
Karli remembers all the yelling she had to endure from him 2 years ago for being late but it took no effect to her. She would even laugh when he would yell, and that eventually helped her garner respect from the employees.
"Why do I keep you here again?"
He said while moving both his arms in Karli's direction. He always loved to explain things to people with his hands in motion, as if he was a teaching in sign language, but it does make the employees laugh. Mr. Amaeul looked at the giggling group of employees with his stone cold face as they continued their work.
"Because of that sexy voice of mine I remember..."
"Oh yeah now I remember I need that voice of yours to seduce the suc... customers"
"So I can stay right?" She said with a sarcastic tone and smile.
"Yeah..." He said with a frustrated one.
"So this was all practically for nothing right boss?"
The room dulled for a moment as it was every time they did it from before. Nothing seemed as fun or intriguing as how Karli stood up to the boss every time she was either late or slacking off since he knows there is no one as good as her in town. He turned around and everything was as it was a few minutes ago.
"That'll be all for today Karli."
He passed by her right and she continued straight forward until she found her desk and casually sat down, picked up the phone and began swaying with all the words she could think of from any part of her mind and selling all those stocks as if the answer to anything can simply be "magic".
