~Layla's POV~

~ Flashback ~

I'm sitting in a wooden chair, shifting uncomfortably like I always do. Denis is sat next to me, his fingers laced in mine.

If my parents could see me now, I'd be dead.

It's really stuffy in this place. The court room is big. It has high windows looking out over the perfectly cut grass. We are back in Washington for the hearing. I didn't want to be here, I wanted to be back on the road. The guys seemed to feel the same way. They sat behind the wooden fence thing being annoying. Cracking sexual jokes and throwing things.

Please don't get kicked out! Please don't get kicked out!

That would look so bad for this case. It already looked bad, we didn't need it to be worse.

Everyone was on edge. I could barely sit still in my dark blue blouse, slacks and flats. My hair was down. Denis on the other hand looked so out of place. Sitting next to me in a button up shirt and suit pants with shined business shoes. He looked like a million bucks, but the way he sat said otherwise. Slouched and playing with his pants, he was so uncomfortable. I felt just as awkward, but for sitting in a courtroom, I didn't mind the clothes. Everyone was watching us, or watching Macy and Josh. They sat perfectly content, smug bastards at the other table.

I can't believe I lost my best friend.

Her and Josh were dressed up, suit, nice dress, but their attitudes spoke loudly. They sat there having no care in the world as the Judge spoke with the whole room, and the the attorneys.

The room was packed full; with us, the jury, the guys, the band manager, Josh's family, the attorneys, and a whole lot of press. They took up most of the room, sitting in the chairs behind the family, and the band, then lining the back wall with cameras going. Journalists quietly speaking into their mics or recorders. This was going to be a long day..

The attorneys opened with statements, then we jumped right into what happened. In no time I was sitting at the witness stand looking out over all the faces. I was shaking as the defence attorney, our attorney stood in front of me. He smiled and it calmed me down.

"So Layla. Can you explain to the jury what happened?" he spoke in simple words, and smooth language. He had to though, that's his job after all. I nodded and jumped into what happened.

I finished after what felt like forever and finally was ushered back to my seat next to Denis. I was still shaking when he slid his warm hand into mine. I looked at him briefly before I looked back at the judy who was speaking again.

"Anything on the prosecutor's side?" he asked, his voice loud and sounding annoyed.

"No your honor." the other attorney said before taking the floor, trying to make Denis look back.

At one point, towards the end of the case Macy and Josh both ended up on the stand and both statements included Denis' past. We had already discussed that, and that it had no weight in this case. But both times Denis held my hand tighter and started grinding his teeth. If he had said anything it would have ended horribly.

"It's okay," I mutter softly making him nod a little. He knew better than to snap in here, in front of all these people. I watched him the rest of the day. He was on edge, I knew he was really worried about going away to jail.

~ Denis' POV ~

I shift after sitting back into the seat next to Layla. We adjourned for the jury to come up with their verdict, and now they have the decision. I'm shaking, I can't get put away, not in the middle of tour, not ever.
