Family

8 months later:
      Tommy was sitting with little Madelyn. Today she will be a little over month old. She was his pride and joy. Oliver came over and kissed her on the forehead and then gave Tommy one as well. Both their fathers would be there today so they were on edge. Their company was doing twice as well as their parents. "Everything will be fine Oliver" Tommy said as he motioned him to sit next to him. Taking a deep breath Oliver sat down. "Are we sure about trying to get the merger with both companies?" Oliver asked. "We have been over this a million times darling we are going through with the merger" Tommy said sick of this discussion. He got up and went to Madelyn in her crib and as he left he said "get everything ready and it will be fine" and headed out of the room. Oliver glanced down at the folder in his hands and got to work.
Malcolm and Robert arrived at the same time. They played nice for the kids but they were bitter rivals until the end. They didn't like their children's marriage but they had a grandchild and family fortunes to worry about. Robert pushed Malcolm out of the way and rang the doorbell. Malcolm scowled and rolled his eyes at Robert.
         Oliver answered the door. "Hello dad, hello Mr. Merlyn" he said and invited them in. Tommy was still back with Madelyn so he figured he might as well get down to business. "Dad, Malcolm, you both know that at this moment Qulin Industries is outselling and outbidding both Queen's consolidated and Merlyn industries. We propose we take half the stock in each of your companies and while you guys operate the day to day we have final say on big monetary issues as well as any products." Oliver said sitting down. He looked at both men for some idea of what they were thinking. They both stared at him blankly. Thankfully Tommy walked into the room at that moment to help him out.
Oliver gave Tommy "the please save me" look and waited for the storm to hit. Tommy stood up, looked both the older men in the eyes and said "if you don't take this deal then Qulin industries and Smoakin Tech will swallow you both whole and you will have to explain to your granddaughter why both your companies failed." Sitting back down Tommy looked seriously proud of himself and Oliver couldn't be any prouder of him.
Not saying a word, Malcolm and Robert went into the room and started to discuss the proposition. Oliver heard Madelyn stir so he went and picked her up. Walking with her and rocking her in his arms he kept her from crying. He looked down into the face of his beautiful daughter and smiled. The two most precious things in his life were right here in this room. He wouldn't let anyone ever hurt them, ever and that was his promise to both of them.
Malcolm was the first one back in the room. He cleared his throat and said "Robert and I both have decided to take your deal". Stunned but pleased, Tommy finished up the paperwork with both men. It felt good to have that behind them. "Now, Oliver has been slaving in the kitchen all day to make us a wonderful dinner and Madelyn wants to spend time with her grandpa's." Tommy said. Oliver handed Malcolm Madelyn and Malcolm's face lit up. He went and stood by Robert so he could see Madelyn as well. The two men could always agree on one thing, they loved that little miracle. Oliver called them all into the kitchen and they sat down to a family dinner that was actually about family not anything else.
