Mystic Falls - 1859
The sky was dark, gloomy and despressing. The roaring thunder made all of the horses go hysterical. The rain had been pouring for hours without halt. But today had to proceed like any other day. Afterall, it was Rose's sixteeth birthday. And although the roads were quite treacherous, the entire town had been invited to her birthday ball.
Rose hated parties, especially since her father never let her drink. She had to dress in a ridiculous outfit that soficated her lungs. It was bloody awful for her. The only good thing about her parties were the Salvatore brothers. They always knew how to entertain her. She had been waiting for them to arrive all night. The party had started ages ago but they were nowhere to be found.
"May I have this dance?" Rose turned hoping to see Damon but frowned slightly when she saw who it was. Rose forced a smile as she looked at the vile being before her. He has been crushing on her since they'd met.
"Stanley Lockwood," Rose grimaced. "A pleasure as always." She curtsyed politely. "And I am sorry but I honestly do not wish to dance."
Stanley chuckled and grabbed her hand. "One dance. Please Rose! One dance and I shall leave you alone forever."
Rose sighed and smiled a little. "Oh alright. One dance and then I'm free."
Stanley nodded with a sly smirk and tugged her onto the dance floor. He placed his hand on her hip and she placed hers on his shoulder. The song playing was lovely and she began to enjoy herself. Stanley was quite the dancer. He twirled her around and around making Rose giggle happily. She loved dancing. Damon had taught her how to dance.
Then when the song ended. Rose gave a nice curtsy and Stanley kissed her cheek making her blushed furiously. Then as if she felt herslff being watched, Rose turned to see Damon glaring at them. Her eyes widened at his angry expression and she followed him as he walked away. Fearing for their friendship, she raced after him even when he walked outside and into the pouring rain. The clouds had darkened and the water seemed hopepless unforgiving as it continued to fall upon them.
Rose stumbled a few times as her dress caught on a few weeds but she was persistant. She ran as fast as she could and grabbed his arm. Damon surprised her when he turned around, his eyes blazing with fury. Rose's face paled and she stepped back, almost regretting coming outside.
"Damon, why are you so upset?" He remained silent. He only glared at her. "What did I do?"
"Nothing," he snapped ferociously. "I just want to be alone right now."
Rose huffed loudly, the rain making her previously curly hair, straight. "But it is raining. Come inside Damon. We can talk about whatever is troubling you. Please! It is my birthday and I wish for you to be there with me."
"Why?" he suddenly hissed. "You seemed to have enough company in there."
Rose's eyes furrowed. "What are you talking about?"
Damon scoffed. "Don't play dumb Rosalinda, I saw you in there getting cozing with Lockwood's son. I saw you two dancing together. I'm not an idiot! You like him, he even kissed your cheek!"
Rose's eyes went wide like saucers. Damon never called her Rosalinda unless he was absolutely livid. She took a deep breath and realized what was happening. "You're jealous," she deduced with a chuckle. "I don't like him Damon, I swear. If anything, I've had a crush on you since we've meet. I like you, Damon."
He looked into her eyes and saw the truth. Rose had never lied to him. It wasn't in her nature to lie. Damon took a deep breath and grabbed her face into his hands. His thumb caressed her cheek as the water droplets fell down onto her precious face. "You don't know how long I've waited for you to say that," he admitted and then smiled. "Almost as long as I've waited to do this."
