When I get down stairs, I hear banging on the floor and my heart beat quickens. I run into the room where I hear the noises and find out it's only dad putting new flooring down in the living room. About time we get really working on this place. "So you're finally putting down flooring?" I ask, standing in the door way. He stops and looks up at me, smiling. "Yeah. You wanna help move anything out of the way, like that old television over there?" He says, pointing the hammer in the direction where the old box TV lays. "Sure." I say, and lift it up. "Where do you want me to put it?"
He goes back to work, but still answers me. "Just throw it in the dumpster." He says and lays a new floor board down. I carry it out of the house and throw it in the dumpster. I walk back to the house and try to open the door but it's locked. I push on the door to try to open it but it won't budge. On the other side of the door I hear two boys laughing. I knock on the door. "Jacob! Jonathan! This isn't funny! Open the door!" I say, and the door unlocks. I swing open the door, almost hitting them with it, so I start to laugh too. They stop laughing and end up going to their room. That's weird.
I go back into the living room, except, dad isn't there and the flooring is all done. The living room looks like a whole new room. The walls and ceiling are fixed, no more paint peeling off the walls and no more droopy ceiling, and the floor is beautiful. There's a couch that doesn't even look like ours, a flat screen TV hanging on the wall and a book shelf next to it. The book shelf holds a lot of movies in alphabetical order, a stereo and music my family doesn't even listen to. But what is happening? Everybody is acting so weird, and this couldn't have been all done within the few minutes I was outside. Is this even our house?
I walk into the kitchen and everything is all brand new. Same hard wood floors, stainless steel appliances, granite counter top and an island in the middle. I run to the dining room. Everything is brand new. I go to the hallway where the front door is and the door is repainted red, there's the same hard wood flooring and a striped rug. The closet has everyone's shoes organized, there's an actual door on the closet and everyone's coats are hung up neatly.
What does upstairs look like then? I go to my dads office and everything is so organized. I go to the second living room, or hang out room and it looks almost the same as the one downstairs. I go up to the third floor, where all the bedrooms are and I go to mine first. I'm scared to see what lies behind the door. I open it and there's nothing there. Just a whole bunch of boxes. Confusion starts to ramble through my head. Are the other bedrooms like that? I go to Jacobs room first. I knock on the door and he answers it. His room is already set up and my jaw drops. Now he's confused. "What are you doing?" He asks and I just walk back into my room. I close the door and shut my eyes, sitting up against the door.
What is happening? I open my eyes and Ollie's sitting across from me. "Confused?" He asks me. He must be a mind reader. "Uh, yeah. How-" He cuts me off, like he knows the question I was gonna ask. "How is everything all fixed and why is your bedroom the only room not set up? That would be all of our doing." He says and everyone appears out of nowhere which only confuses me more. They all fade away. "And I'm here to help you with your room. I didn't know how you wanted it.." He says, shyly and breaks eye contact. "Do my parents know how all this happened?" I ask, trying to bring back his eye contact.
He still looks away. "Well about that..."
