Ten Thousand stands completely still, his jaw slacked, his eyes wide, and his skin becoming paler by the second.
The Zeros hadn't been watching where they were shooting, and so, when one of them slipped (as he was climbing down the brick wall), he missed his shot. The bullet was headed straight for 10k, but you, you leaped in front of it, resulting in your (indirect) assassination.
The bullet went through your forehead (where as it would have gone into 10k's heart), and stayed imbedded in your brain as you collapsed, dead and gone, to your knees.
All the boy can do is watch, as you fall to the right, both motionless and emotionless, for the extra few seconds it takes Addy to drag 10k into the underground passage. He doesn't even have time to grab a souvenir or something to remember his best friend by, but it doesn't matter, because his mourning thoughts are cut off anyway, by the piercing sound of metal slamming against metal.
"Oh my god." Addy mutters, her mouth slightly agape, and her eyes misty with tears.
Addy wasn't as close to you as 10k was, but then again, no one really was. Addy was another rock that kept you grounded to this god-forsaken-earth, but she kept you in touch with your feminine side, and you loved her (secretly) for that.
This will always be the one thing you will regret, not telling these people you loved them, despite how much you actually did.
The group raise their weapons at the armed Zeros in front of them, their expressions all stone cold, but their eyes wet and wild with despair. You were gone, and you didn't even have a chance. That is the worst part.
"Lower your weapons." Scorpion orders, his hands linked in front of him professionally.
10k scrunches his face up in concentration, and he grips his rifle closer to him, his forearms rigid and knuckles white. He stomps forward and sneers. "You killed her."
Scorpion frowns, his eye brows raised. "I'm sorry, Senor, but we cannot be held responsible for every Z we put down." He shrugs and begins to motion to one of his companions to shoot 10k.
Ten Thousand cuts him off when he sends his gun crashing to the wall on his left, he glares murderously at Scorpion, the high points of his cheeks red, and his chest heaving with rage. "She wasn't a goddamn Z!"
"C'mon Ten." Addy sighs, lowering her gun and holstering it, she bends over and picks up the younger boys gun, wrapping her free arm around his slim shoulder. "I know it hurts but-"
"No, you don't know, you just don't. You don't understand." Ten Thousand shrugs off his friends arm, and tries to get himself as far away from every person in the room, bringing him closer and closer to Murphy, unfortunately. "She's gone." He whispers, and then he hooks his fingers around the back of his head, squeezing his eyes shut as if to try and make it all go away. Make all the pain vanish, make the deafening noises fade, and make the burning memories be forgotten.
But if 10k is honest with himself, he knows that he doesn't want the memories of you and him to vanish, he knows he doesn't want those last words you said to him to be gone, and he definitely doesn't want to stop feeling this loss for you. That would make you not real, and you were real, you were the most real thing he had. You were a friend, a best friend.
You were his best friend.
You made everything in this world seem easier to handle, without making him blind to the evil within. You made everything seem more real, and intense. You were everything, and then you were made nothing. And he doesn't know if he can handle you being nothing now. Not now, not ever. You were far too important to this world to just become nothing in a split second. You deserved more than that.
