Hours and hours of endless clouds, roads and cars that looked minuscule from the altitude the plane was flying. A 6 hour flight filled with nothing to do except stare at the immense scenery. I groaned and looked out the window, taking in the view as we soared over a huge city, with dozens of clouds surrounding us. The clouds danced happily as the wind pushed them left and right. Convenient. They were happy and I was sitting gloomily in the back of an airplane.
My mother turned her head back. "Brayce, you haven't talked the whole ride.. Are you okay?" Considering my life right now, okay was not a good word to use.
"Yeah, sure. I am just dandy." I leaned my head on the window and closed my eyes. All I needed right then and there, was an escape from the world.
* * *
"Braycee! We're here!" My mother practically shouted in my ear. I opened my eyes to see her next to me fiddling with my bags. My dad was busy bringing the luggage from the bag check into the car.
"Great." I mumbled. I pulled myself up and grabbed my tote. My fingers fumbled for my phone and looked for any new messages.
One New Message from Skylr:
Hey.. Just wanted to see how the flight is going.. Call me when u get there.. Ttyl..
"I'm going to bring these up to the car and whenever you're ready, just come in, but remember, we have to be at your aunt's house by 6 and its 5:30." I gave my father a nod and turned my attention back to my phone. I dialed Skylr's number and waited for her to answer. One ring. Two rings. Three rings.
Skylr's cheery voice answered on ring four, as always. "Hello?"
"Hey Sky."
"Oh, hey Brayce! How are ya?" I paused. How was I? I was happy to be getting a break, confused about everything, and mad at the world.
"Eh. Same old, same old. We just got here." I said. Skylr let out a squeal. I walked from the airport into the car that was waiting for me and my family. The driver slowly pushed the acceleration and I felt the movement of the car propelling us forward.
"OMG!! How big is the house, is it on a hill or is it on flat land? Is it close to the beach or-"
"Sky! Slow down! I just got in the car.. I haven't even had a chance to look at the house, let alone the state of California," I explained. Sometimes Sky could babble and if you didn't stop her, she would ramble on and on and on.
"Well, a car has four windows and four doors, or two doors depending on the car. Either way, look out the window and tell me what you see! Is it sunny? Palm trees?" I let out a laugh. I stopped immediately. This was the first time I had laughed in a long time. The first time I had genuinely laughed.
"Good point, Sky. And thanks. You made me laugh." I said, still giggling.
"No problem. Now go look!!" She yelled. Even over the phone, I could hear how loud she said that. I laughed to myself again, and looked out the window, taking in the breathtaking scenery right outside of LAX.
"A bunch of palm trees, Sky. And it's extremely sunny," I add.
"Ugh, I am so jealous of you. And I'm going to miss you like crazy. How long until you get back again?"
