Melissa, Kenz and I all walk across the street to the house, going up to the front door.
I really wonder who lives here, maybe we can make some new friends!
Kenz exclaims.
I nod, then press down on the small, blue doorbell.
A few seconds pass before the door swings open, revealing a blonde girl.
Hey
She says.
Wait a minute, I recognise that voice.
It's Chloe Lukasiak.
Shit.
My eyes widen as I realise who the new family is, the Lukasiak family.
Chloe?!
Kenz yells.
That girl really needs to learn how to keep her mouth shut.
Oh my gosh! The zieglers!
She says in an almost sarcastic tone,
UGHHH, lemme go grab my mom, I'll be one sec...
She runs her hand through her dirty blonde hair before spinning on her heel and slipping down the hall.
Maddie! CHLOE LUKASIAK LIVES ACROSS THE STREET FROM US!
Mackenzie squeals.

I reply.
My tone isn't sarcastic enough for my 12 year old sister to recognise, but my mom throws me a look.
Three people come down the hall again, Chloe, Clara and Christi.
Christi smiles at us as she approaches the door.
Hey guys! Haven't seen you in a while! You wanna come on in?!
Christi exclaims.
My mom nods and we shuffle inside.
I try to admire the house, but can't take my eyes off the tall blonde girl.
She looks my way, our eyes connecting.
Panic comes over me and I look down at my shoes, great move Maddie, great move.
So, how has life been lately?
Christi inquires, our moms instantly regaining their friendship.
As they chat away, I nervously bite my nails.
Mackenzie nudges me slightly, not knowing what to do.

I slide my phone out of my pocket, holding up to my ear.
I slowly back away from the awkward situation to answer the call.

k: what ya doing?
m: umm, meeting my new neighbours
k: that's cool, what are they like
m: well I know them, they are nice and their last name is lukasiak
k: oh that's coo- wait what!
k: you mean like Chloe Lukasiak!
m: yeah I do, but it's legit so awkward
k: just talk to her, it's not like your worst enemies.
I see Mackenzie starting a conversation with the girls.
m: yeah Kendall, I'll do that. gotta go now, talk to you later, bye
k: bye!l
I stumble over to the other girls, sitting down next to kenz.
