It started on the first day of the academy, when all the new students were sent out to test their skills.
Of course, being the daughter of the Yellow Flash, she was incredible. And so was Uchiha Itachi.
Oh, she did not enjoy not being the best. He couldn't care less. And it pissed her off.
So she cornered him at the training grounds, alone, one day.
He was doing his kunai practice while she tapped her foot impatiently, watching with a smirk as he tried to hit every target.
"You're not going to succeed." She said as she walked up behind him. He turned to raise his eyebrows at her.
"You aren't bending it enough." And she demonstrated, hitting all the targets in one swift go.
Itachi's mouth twisted into a smile.
"Thanks." He said before resuming his practice.
Whatever Minako came for, she forgot completely.
Uchiha Itachi had thanked her.
From then on, she couldn't leave the boy alone. From his loneliness at school because he was the best and everyone thought he was cocky, she was there for him. From the loneliness of training alone, she was there training with him.
He was happy. So happy. But he wouldn't just tell her that.
He watched the blonde improve everyday and smiled. She had already surpassed him in every level.
And the day came when the two had to duel.
Everyone was rooting, for who, they don't know. But it was a match to watch.
A day before the match, Itachi sat on the roof of the academy, watching the sunset when Minako appeared, jumping from roof to roof.
Then she spotted him and made her way to the Uchiha who watched her silently.
As she sat down next to him, he smiled.
"Tomorrow... We're going to have to duel tomorrow, y'know." Minako said, barely audible.
Itachi nodded and turned to her.
"Don't be soft on me, no matter what." Itachi had to say it.
He knew his friend well over the months they had become friends.
And she would become soft for her friends.
She laughed.
"I have to say that to you, Itachi." He chuckled in response.
Then the two were enveloped in a peaceful silence.
The sun slowly disappeared behind the mountains as Minako laid her head on her friends shoulder and closed her eyes. She wanted that moment to last forever and ever.
Itachi's eyes widened, but then a soft happy smile appeared on his mouth. And so did a soft peachy pink blush on his cheek.
Then it was the day. The day of the duel.
The two fought with all the had, rivaling each others skills and Minako's yellow flash was a weakness for Itachi. He was panting, hands on his knees, but not ready to give up. The same went to Minako.
Kushina and Minato watched from the roof of the academy as their children were dueling Uchiha Itachi.
The two were just seven. Kushina and Minato couldn't believe their eyes as they watched the two shinobi clash.
A day after the match, the academy had announced that the two were finally graduates. At that time, when Kushina was in labor.
The Nine Tail's had attacked.
