That night Itachi was put on guard of Sasuke, his brother who was given birth to not only a few days ago.

And Minako beside her brother, holding his tiny baby hands when a masked man attacked.

And Minako was beside her parents until the very end, when they sealed half of the tailed beast into Naruto, and half into Minako.

She watched as her parents was stopped and impaled, giving their last words to her and her baby brother. She was crying as her parent's blood stained her cheeks. She tried to grasp for air as she watched her parents collapse with a smile, telling her they loved both of them, and died in each other's arms.

The next morning people praised the Fourth Hokage. Who, did not live long, but protected the village until his last breath.

Minako was not seen at all. Neither was Naruto, who has now under the care of the third.

Itachi had never left her alone since that day. He'd go to her dark, empty house that was meant for 4 people, only to see her sobbing and hugging herself.

He would go over, and hug her up next to him, for he knew she needed someone.

"I have a monster in me. A monster that killed my parents." She told him. He couldn't help but hug her closer to him.

He couldn't help but protect the girl who had lost her parents in one night and who had gotten the beast that killed it locked up inside her.

"I'm a monster! Get away from me before it's too late, Itachi!" He remembered she had pushed him away from her, her eyes bloodshot.

Three years later, she had disappeared from Konohagakure.

And he was the only person who knew where she was hiding.

Slowly, everyone forgot about Namikaze Minako, the girl who was a threat to the village if she ever let the beast out of her. And everyone shamed Uzumaki Naruto, the boy who grew up without anyone but himself and the beast inside him.

Namikaze Minako had joined the Akatsuki in it's worst time. After the death of Yahiko. Nagato had quickly accepted the girl as seeing her strong and broken, wanting peace as much as he did, even though she was so young.

That night before she had left, she went to the Uchiha's household, to see Itachi.

He was sitting under the moonlight, writing a letter to the Third. They were already ten years old. Itachi had barely had time to see Minako nowadays, but he missed her either ways.

That night she threw a rock at his window, but got response from the happy Uchiha Sasuke instead, who came running at her at full speed and tackled her in a hug.

"Minako!" He yelled.

He had met the girl several times when Itachi had brought him over to cheer Minako up, and he immediately took a liking to the blonde, broken girl.

He even told Itachi to back off from Minako because he was going to be the one to marry her. Itachi and Minako only laughed. It was the first day since her parents death that she had laughed.

Itachi sat blushing as he remembered what Sasuke had said. His brother had realized that Itachi had a crush on Minako even before she did. Then he heard her name from outside his window. He opened it and peered out to see his best friend and her brother talking to each other with smiles on their faces.

Itachi blushed. It took times for her to smile. But around the tiny Uchiha, she could always smile.

Whenever Itachi had brought up Sasuke, she would be so eager to hear more. Whenever he brought up Naruto, she winced in guilt for not being there for him as he was growing up. But she couldn't. She was denied the right to see him. For their Yin and Yang tailed beast might clash and another uproar would happen. He couldn't know of her, yet. And he couldn't know of their parents either.

Why, she would ask Itachi, plead for him to tell her why.

"Because he would only feel guilt and pain."

Was always Itachi's answer.

He watched as Minako laughed at Sasuke doing a dance for her only to see a tear drop to the floor from her cheeks.

Sasuke stopped dancing and ran towards the girl.

"What's wrong? Did you not like my dance?" Sasuke sadly asked. She shook her heard and smiled at him, pulling him to a warm embrace.

"Hey, if I don't ever get to see you again, please, don't forget me." She smiled and pecked the little Sasuke's cheek. Sasuke stood stiff, hands on his cheeks, blushing madly.

Minako looked up to see Itachi frowning. She smirked and said her goodbye to Sasuke before jumping up to Itachi's room.

"Sup." She smiled before entering, disturbing whatever was on his desk. She sat herself down on his bed and looked around the room.

"Nice place, warm and cozy." She smiled sadly.

Itachi stood in front of her, pushed her head up, and flicked her forehead.

She glared at him.

"What was that for?!" She whined but laughed anyways. And then she started sobbing.

Itachi's eyes widened, he was confused. Did he hurt her?

And then she pulled his body that was in front of her, and hugged him tight.

"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." She whispered. Itachi sighed and rubbed her hair.

"What's wrong?" He asked silently.

She looked up from his stomach, her tears glistening.

"I'm leaving Konoha." She said and smiled sadly.

Itachi's eyes widened in distress.

"No!" He quickly denied. She smiled and chuckled.

"Sorry, but where will you go?" He asked.

"Akatsuki. It's the only group that travels with hidden identity. I... I need that. I need peace." She answered and laughed.

"It's your favorite word isn't it? Peace." She laughed to herself.

Itachi didn't reply. But she could feel his tears drop to her face.

"Itachi?" She looked up again to see Uchiha Itachi shedding tears for her.

He pulled her up from his bed and enveloped her in a tight embrace.

"When?" He asked, his body shaking.

"Tonight." She answered, smiling into his shaking body.

He slowly nodded.

"I want you to promise me, to be careful." Itachi whispered into her ears.

"And I want you to promise me to always protect Sasuke and his innocence." She replied.

"And promise me to always keep contact." He said.

"And promise me to be safe, and don't do risky things." She whispered.

"Promise me to not fight for peace." He was shaking and she was too.

"Promise me to protect Konoha." She was sobbing harder now.

"I will, but you have to promise me, that one day, if we meet again, to give me a chance at your heart." He whispered. She stiffened in his arms, a blush rising to her cheeks before she smiled softly and sadly.

"You already have it."

And that night, she joined the Akatsuki.
